The Fillmore East

Post by ohmygodtheykilledkenny » Fri Jul 24, 2009 2:26 am

I was at work today, and I started daydreaming. I started thinking about the plethora of killer live albums cut at the Fillmore, granted they were all stellar bands, there has to be something about that room sound.

As some of you may know, the fillmore east is now a bank, and a bunch of apartments. My question is this:

Would it be possible to clone the Fillmore East? Obviously this would be ridiculously expensive, ludicrisly difficult, and would require years of work to research and complete. But do you think it's possible.

How awesome would it be to have a venue like this where artists could perform live showcases and cut live tracks?

Again, just my mind wandering.

I don't know. First of all, you would have to find "old growth" pine 2x4's. Sorry, got lost for a minute, thought I was over at the LPF.

With modern construction what it is, I doubt anyone would clone a venue like that. Acoustically Im sure they could, but the mojo of the original would be tough to duplicate.
Actually, one of the best places to see a show (when they have 'em) is Radio City Music Hall. I've seen the Allman Brothers there, and the acoustics are amazing. No boomy-ness, no places where the sound gets mashed together. Every instrument is clearly heard.
They dont feature too many rock bands there at all, though. Maybe they place gets too messed up afterwards??

The Mormon Tabernacle would also be a great place. The acoustics are amazing, like Carnegie and Lincoln Center. I don't think the Mormom elders would be to keen on rock & roll though....

It's a great idea. I won't go see a show, that's staged at one of those multi use corporate centers, like here in chicago where the bulls play, the United Center. Just an awful place to see a show. :| If you are not right out front, the music is so garbled up, it's sometimes hard to tell what song they're playing. Outdoor venues have much better sound, it's what they were made for and smaller theater venues of course.

I know that no one would clone it....but what if someone did. I've been to a few old theaters for show's here in my home town, and they are always far better sounding then the arena shows I've seen. I would personally rather pay double, and have to stand in line for tickets at a small stage then book online and see at a big venue.
