New Black Crowes out today....

I picked their latest effort "Before the Frost...Until the Freeze" and I am blown away... It is a 2 album compilation that really get back to their southern roots. Recorded in Levon Helms' barn... The first CD is 10 great new tunes and their disco song "I ain't hiding" This song fits on this album like John Denver fits in 80's metal compilation! The second CD is mostly (not all) bluegrassy stuff complete with fiddles, banjos, and steel guitars!! reminded me alot of Manassas (Stephen Stills). VERY interesting and cool material... Some GREAT slide playing by Luther throughout both albums... I am big fan of Marc Ford but I am really being convinced that Luther fits in with band perfectly... the first album more electric than the first... I was not disappointed and picked up some tickets to go see them in Grand Rapids on 11/5!!

Big fan of Marc Fords playing with the Crowes too, although I kind've lost interest after Amorica. 3 snakes put me off a bit.

3 snakes followed with By Your Side was not their best efforts! Warpaint had its moments, but this is their best release in a LONG time... I have listened to this several times and it has grown into heavy rotation on my iPod...

I really liked 3 Snakes. By Your Side had a couple good tunes, as did Lions, but were lacking compared to earlier work.(with the exception of Welcome to the Goodtimes, that is one of my fav Crowes tunes)
I absolutely LOVE Warpaint, so if this tops that, then I am super excited to hear it. It is on order as we speak.

i'll have to hear some more.
never been into them, kinda hit and miss with me.
