Sirius receiver FM transmitter
I really want to get Sirius but I dont want to have to buy a whole bunch of equipment on top of the receiver. At least not just to start using the thing. Does the FM transmitter in the nicer receivers really sound good? Does it work well? I kinda gotta figure that its transmitting the FM signal close to the radio receiver in your car or home system and its digital so it should sound about the same as the regular radio signal. Anyone who has one of these things here? If it really works like that Ill get one. But Im not buying a car stereo unit to dock the receiver AND a home unit as well.

Mosty of the ones that I've seen sound good broadcasting through an unused FM band but better through the line outs. They usually come with the car kit and then you'll need the home kit for another antenna and a power supply. Keep checking eBay and the hot deals forums for units because as the new models come out, they'll be blowing out the older models for free after rebate or subscription.Billy Batz wrote:I really want to get Sirius but I dont want to have to buy a whole bunch of equipment on top of the receiver. I think Ill do that. Thanks. I can use the line out at home hich was probably always best (no interference) but I just wanted to know I can just get a reciever and not worry about having a whole sirius car unit and a sirius home unit or boombox. Thats useless to me. It takes me long enough just to find a good home or car stereo with all ther normal selection.

My wife bought herself an XM receiver. she bought the home pack that has everything to use for the home stereo, car, walkman type thing. Total cost for the hardware was about $100. So I am assuming Sirius has something similar. You should not need the boombox or the whole car setup. The home kit for XM comes with a 1/8" plug to RCA connector to hook up to your home stereo, and one of those cassette things for use in the car stereo. As well as antenna's for the home, in the car, and a smaller one in case you want to run around with the receiver like a walkman.
Something to think about, XM will be releasing an adapter for your car stereo that will not have to use the receiver and will use your pre existing car stereo display for channels etc. As long as the stereo is made post 1995. This should be released by christmas time or shortly after the new year. It will also use your current account for access to the network. I do not know if Sirius is coming out with something similar.

With all the money sirius is pumping into the company with talent, sports, talk shows and promotion Id think they should. I decided to try it though. I want to go with Howard and I want the sports so I can at least have it for half the football season stil remaining. Its a givin the music channels are better on satalite so thatll vbe cool.
