Finally going to have a work area to build amps again

Post by mightymike » Sun May 02, 2010 7:39 pm

This time I really want to be more organized.
Here's my basic plan:
I have an L shaped desk, long side of the L for building amps. I'm going to put a shelf above it with bins, and a bar across the front for spools of wire so I can just pull down to where I'm building.
Later on I'll add a table to the end of the long side of the "L" for another smiliar station for my son and my future step son who both want to build.
Any ideas or suggestions on how to set things up would be apreciated. I'm curious on how others are set up. For now I'm putting up shelves and sorting through boxes and boxes of parts that were thrown together when I got divorced three years ago. (I did a quick pack back then) This will be the first time I'll have a proper place "sanctuary" for building. I'm getting jazzed as it comes together.

Congratulations, Mike. Sounds like you are up and running again. Good to hear.

Fixed hundreds of amps on this bench:

Everything is within arms reach. All parts are subdivided into categories, then by value. The key to efficiency is organization. Many guys like to use those soldering stations. I never have because they limit my movement around oddball projects and cabs, or when I need an iron on the floor.

I agree, for building, having the wire spools in front on a bar is a real good idea. I've set up a rig like that in the past when doing builds.

Love those Bins... Where did you get ones with so many slots?

I do believe I got them at Lowe's. I could probably use another couple of bins even still. I do have a lot of parts categorized in easy to read boxes as well.

Just look up Akro-Mils if you're looking for those types of bins. Ebay always has a bunch...just a saw a 64-drawer which would be perfect for the smaller components.
