Wet Shaving
Any other guys still using a traditional wet shave? With a brush, shave soap and a razor I mean.
Personally I use a 50's Gillette Double Edge Safety Razor, fave blades so far are Feather. Real close shave.

I didn't know you could still buy shaving soap! That sure brings back memories of the old man standing by the sink using a rear view mirror from an old Desoto as his mirror. Usually had a cigarette hanging out of his mouth while he shaved. I only shave a couple of times a week during the summer and hardly any when it's cold out
Thanks for bringing back some fond memories

Yeah, for me too!! Because of my Dad, I used one of these razors, with a soap cup and brush for the LONGEST time: Since switching to a Gillette Sensor razor, I havent used an old style razor in years, but I think I'd enjoy switching back, now that you guys have mentioned it!!myfoot wrote:I didn't know you could still buy shaving soap! Re: Wet Shaving
At 3 I learned the hard way not to put your finger through the center of the blade

Ouch!! Center of the blade sounds painful!
You're welcome for the memories guys, it's a really satisfying shave. I use proraso shave soap, it's got menthol in it so it makes your face all tingly.
I'm thinking of picking up a straight in the spring! Gotta get some funds together for hones and stuff though so that I could maintain it.

Re: Wet Shaving
I had a girlfriend in high school whose dad was from the UK. He was one of those "take you under his wing" kind of parents. He got me started on the brush and soap wet shave. He had a collection of razors too and even travelled with a leather strap for his straight. Always loved it... now it's all about time, so I shave as little as possible.
Great stuff!

A STRAIGHT??!! Now THATS a mans razor!!ohmygodtheykilledkenny wrote:I'm thinking of picking up a straight in the spring! Gotta get some funds together for hones and stuff though so that I could maintain it.
I still go to an old fashioned barber, and he uses a straight razor to do the back of my neck.
I cant watch... its too close to a Mafioso style of whacking someone.

Re: Wet Shaving
Straights are so badass! My grandpa on my mums side told me when he gave me his Gillettes when I was 13 or 14 that he bought himself a beautiful German straight razor from a jeweler in the 60's, but returned it cuz in spite of having the closest shave he'd ever had, he was terrified of shaving his own neck and throat.fillmore nyc wrote: A STRAIGHT??!! Personally I'm hoping to pick up an old Sheffield made wedge, like a wade and butcher. They apparently take a great edge and as long as you take care of them they last forever.
