Question for Detroit, MI guys...

Post by npminard » Mon Feb 13, 2006 11:28 pm

Do any of you guys know of or participate in open blues or rock jams at local venues around Metro-Detroit? Any of you guys ever get together and jam? Would be nice to play w/some other guitarists. I'm trying to get out and start playing out or at the very least meet and play w/some local guys. Any info welcome, Thanks.

The Metro Times has lots of open jam listings. There's also a free local blues mag that covers most of the event's around the metro area. I forgot its name but you can find it at good music stores and bars.

The Attic Bar in Hamtramck is a popular blues joint and they had an open jam night.

Be warned! Use discretion when choosing clubs. I hate to have to say this but let's face it - the Detroit area is painfully racially divided. My skinny white ass has been refused service in certain bars.

Thanks for the advice on blues venues around here and the Metro times. I've seen some in Metro Times, but wasn't sure if they were an ongoing thing or a one time deal.

Do any of you guys from the board get together and jam?

One more great reason to live in Detroit. If you wanna get in a club like that, make sure you whoop the shit out of someone the minute you get in the bar. Then you get the respect, money, then the power, and the women. Ha ha, i just had to tag off Scarface there.

I thought these rules only applied in a Federal Pound-me-in-the-ass prison.

Yeah, Memphis Smoke has live entertainment. I can't see them having an open jam night. Ya never know. I want to say Thornetta Davis had a regular gig there. Far cry from open jam.
