If I could bring back Jimi, just so he could slap Slash I would. J/K
SRV could have done one hell of a tribute, better than anyone short of Jimi himself.

RIP

Hope this didn't make you roll over in your grave Jimi.

I would have rather listened to Winwood do the solo on keyboards. Granted, I would have hated to have been in Slash's shoes trying to fill Jimi's....

Hendrix tribute/Slash

Post by yngwie308 » Fri Jun 23, 2006 1:39 pm

    You have to admit Slash plays great for someone who was dead for at least a few minutes, remember it took Buckethead to replace him,and he has excellent taste in guitars, snakes.
Plus he played on MJ's record, just like EVH,Steve Stevens,Steve Lukather.
And he always exhibits great style with the cigarette, just as Yngve used to before he quit, smoking that is!
And Slash gives a shout out to Gary Moore in interviews, especially 'Shapes of Things',so that is cool.
Could those shapes be pentatonic? :P :P
Plus touring with Axl Rose, which deserves a medal!
Love and Peace

I dunno...I was never a big Slash fan to begin with, thought his tone was too nasal sounding. However, this is definitely the worst I ever heard him play. I mean, he could and did have some great moments, but this ain't one of them.
Why is it we can remember where all the wires go, but can never find a pick?

Slash Hendrix Video

Post by yngwie308 » Sat Jun 24, 2006 6:35 pm

BrownSound 1.
You don't know me that well to identify my sarcasm,I am joking in my post there.
Slash is a cool guy and appreciates good vintage guitars and Marshalls(kind of),but he is a feel player mostly, nothing wrong with that, but no way do I consider him a serious guitarist by my own personal standards.
I always have been a great Gary Moore fan,and he is the master of excellent execution in playing in many ways.Feel, emotion, technique, taste, note choice, construction of solos and songwriting and a very good singer for what he does.
I have a very British sense of humour and it's kind of what you don't say, rather than what you say and the way you say it!
You are right it is terrible and he needs to apologize to Jimi, whom all he has in common is that both of their fathers were black!!
No racial offense meant, but Guns n'Roses were a product of the times,a post punk backlash, where I thought, cool guitar solos are back, but he dosen't have that distictive signature to his playing that the greats do.
While we're dpeaking of the dead so to speak,I loved the playing of Randy California who actually played with Jimi in the early days, and gave Randy the nickname of 'California" there being another Randy back then.
On his solo album Kaptain Kopter and the Twirlybirds,he gets so close to Jimi in feel and tone.
Plus all his great work with Spirit, especially the 12 Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus, fantastic playing and songwriting.
Sadly Randy was drowned trying to rescue his son from tha ocean,my God bless his soul.
Thanks

I give Slash kudos, to make it in this world as a "guitar player" you do not necessarily need to be "the best" technically. What you do need is a look, a sound, and be able to write good stuff - all of which he did, and quite well in his prime IMO.

Yes, he stunk it up on this one. Which "great" guitar player hasn't at some point?

And I would not blame that on age, he is playing well with Velvet Revolver, and heck, look at Jeff Beck or Clapton, even McCartney - all still playing very well at relatively old age.

Yngwie...bro I think we have our wires crossed. I wasn't really responding to what you said in your post, even though I can see how you would definitely think that. I wrote that yesterday, and I was in a daze from working 18 hours the night before! My response is more towards some of the previous posts about Slash's greatness in GnR. I never really thought he was all that great to be honest, but he did have some good moments.

The ultimate rockn 'n roll image might be Joe Perry, who always looks the part on stage.
