Phil and Gary were like brothers, yet fought like them, when it was good it was the best, but Phil's drug addiction cost Gary too deeply and thus so much regrets.
I like the Robbo/Gorham era the best for classic Lizzy, but I think Phillips songwriting developed on the later Snowy White/Sykes albums.
Bon Jovi freely admits ripping of their steel horse/six stringer persona from Phil.
Phillip was a poet, had a eye for the girls and tried to be too many things for too many people, in the end, the time for himself ran out, living on time that he had borrowed, as Gary said.
There was supposed to be a film made about Phil's life starring the guy from CSI,Gary, but I heard nothing of it recently.
Thank God Phil's mom allows his estate to carry on in a normal way,not the incredibly selfish, greedy, exploitive way Experience Hendrix has.
Phil was the darkest son of Ireland and one of their greatest heroes.

Live On Phillip

Man, I get all emotional about Phil. He was such a complete natural as far as lyrics and songs went. He could so perfectly convey the feeling and beauty of young lust, or, the hatred of unjust prejudice (which I'm sure he must have faced) His music, well Thin Lizzy's music, was so substantial. It had all the great elements of things that make music good imho, like , how it feels to ride down the road in an open back truck, or the"butter flies " in the belly of young lust. He could tell such 'pure' and honest descriptions of things we all think about. I remember reading an article where Gene Simmon's and Paul Stanley gave thier opinion's on Thin Lizzy. They had very high opinions of Thin Lizzy. They said that thier harmonized guitar melodies were very rememorable and catchy, as was Phill's ability to tell a complete story within the songs. Man Phill's mum Philomena, must have been a looker when she was younger, those picture's you posted show her ageing very well, as compared to Scott Gorham. Man, he looks so different compared to 10 or 15 years ago. Damn, I guess the better lookin'you are, the worse you age huh ? That must be why Roger Water's and Geddy Lee keep lookin' better as time goes by :D .

Sorry for the slow reply...forgot I was watching this thread. As soon I have some cash I'm hitting the pavement and cleaning the record store out.

"Still Got The Blues", this version from the Blues Alive VHS tape, with Stripe Gary's trusty '59 Burst #9-2227...still at his side:

Yeah Mike BB wanted to do a whole album with Gary as opposed to the one song, Since I Met You Baby but Gary declined.
Gary can parrot Eric better than anybody out there, plays his licks even better, as far as Jeff, who is one of Gary's heroes, Gary has played similar fusion to Jeff, but no one can sound like Jeff, as you know.
Yes BB's head was cut wide open that night.... :)

Yeah, I was laughin' hard when I saw that. Gary just completly embarrassed ol BB. I was thinkin to myself "Man, is Gary gonna let up on him, maybe show a bit of restraint". HELL NO ! Gary did what one should do in any jam situation, which is play your best alway's. I cant fully describe how that jam went down, as I've never ever heard anyone getting outplayed as bad as that in my life. I'm laughin' right now thinking about it  . But, B.B is an origonal, who has influenced alot of people.

I kinda look at as a tip of the hat to BB. "BB you invented this shit and I did my homework and studied it best I can (then applied my heart and tone to it)."

Yeah, I guess B.B was old enough by then to take that view, since he was an origional pioneer to much of the guitar solo's to come. But man, Moore was even makin' those savage kinda faces and posture's while he was layin' it on the Brotha. I mean, Gary alway's makes faces and posture's when he's ripping, but that shit still totally cracks me up.

The only one the place had was Jailbreak, and I snatched it up for a whopping...$3! It looked like it was damaged, but using a vinyl cleaning cloth, it turned out to be just a scuff.

I'll give her a listen tommorow, I was gonna grab Gary Moore, but I raided their Rory section first lol

ohmygodtheykilledkenny wrote:I haven't had a lot of opertuinity(how do you spell that?) to listen to Thin Lizzy, what would you guys say are their 3-4 best albums. I'll hit up the used record shop in my area and pick up a few once I get my latest pay check. Everytime I've heard them on the radio, or at partys, I love em.

Thanks,
Travis
I would add Fighting to the list, really musical album

Travis, the "Jailbreak" album is great, but, it is a little more commercial than some of the others. My favs on that album are "Emerald", "Warrior, and "Fight or Fall", as that song has just been stuck in my head for years now. I love Robertsons solo on that track, its so simple and minor keyed, yet totally effective. For guy's into "cranked SuperLeads and Gibsons" type tones, Thin Lizzy is hard to beat. I agree with Kluson abou the "Fighting" album, its great. Also the "Nightlife" album is great and also has a guest Gary Moore solo on "Still In Love With You".
