Faith is definitely involved. I totally understand your religion/reason comment. People (not necessarily you) who rely entirely on reason or intellect usually go with the Darwin evolution school of thought (even though modern science has "proved" it to be very flawed). On the other hand, there are hundreds of prophecies in the Bible that actually happened hundreds of years later. I consider these to be a type of proof.
Evolution and biblical prophecy, we could debate these for years,
but, this isn't the place and neither of us is likely interested in expending that kind of energy.
One way I try to view Christianity from a "real world perspective" is to think of it like this:
Do you believe that George Washington really existed and did the things that were recorded in history?
I believe history is always influenced by those people writing it down/and/or fabricating it later on.
OR another way to look at it, " History is written by the winner"
I believe Washington existed, was he all the things that we have made him out to be? Not likely. Did he help found this country? very likely. Has research shown some of the myth's we created about Washington to not be true. Yes.
If so, there is way more historical evidence and eyewitness accounts of Christ's existence and the things that He did.
The same can be said for
Buddha(Buddhism), Mirza Husayn-'Ali-i-Nuri(Baha'i Faith), K'ung Fu Tzu (Confucianism), Muhammad (Islam), Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji (Sikhism)
and on and on.
Do some independent research of your own
I have read a GREAT deal of philosophy/religion over the years.
I have no problem with anyone practicing the faith of there choice, in there OWN life.
I support the separation of church and state,
I dont want government involved in religion, in any form.
and
I dont want religion using government to spread there dogma, in any form
