I agree that it is better to keep both subs, unless you can't afford a second amp.
I agree that more cone is better, unless you can't run the two cones efficiently enough. I would prefer a nice clean signal from one sub to a distorted or anemic signal from two. With most bass bins you have to get them to a certain volume for the cabinet to be efficient.
So, if you can keep two subs and get a more realistic power amp to run them, great. But if not try running one sub and see if it is more punchy. If you like the sound with both subs better, then run the two (but save up for another amp...).
