Thanks Pete, I need to fix my images in photoshop now. They are off center because I had empty background space on some of them.

Again, thanks. You guys rock.

Hi George:

Good advice from Mark and Nitro. They know their HTML. Do they teach that as well at GIT Mark ? :D

You really need the full Adobe CS2 package for what you need to do. It has all you need, including Imageready, that´s Photoshop for web images, it will resize and make thumbs for you, GoLive for webdesign, Illustrator which is what Dan uses for his layouts, and Acrobat Pro that lets you optimize your PDF´s.

What version of Photoshop do you currently have ? Maybe someone in the US can help you out with CS2. Otherwise PM me.

You should´nt have to hand edit tables to make things fit...
Doing HTML by hand is fun once you get the hang of it, but it is soo time consuming. And you should´nt have to do it yourself. :?

That's how you learn, though, and that's important when you want to fix or add something. I'd stay away from most of those wysiwyg html editors such as GoLive or FrontPage...they bloat the pages with unnecessary code. Dreamweaver is pretty much the standard and even its "design" view mode isn't all that great. I use it myself but I work primarily in code view. DW with Photoshop is basically all you really need. Imageready comes already packaged with PS. Illustrator isn't necessary unless you're into vector Illustrations or doing alot of print work. Acrobat is good to have.

Learning the basics of html is easy...think amp-building...just take one step at a time and practice. I'm presently trying to wrap my head around building sites using CSS entirely for layouts...THAT my friend is a headache and a half.

my take is after learning basic html i now use dreamweaver in split view do most of my stuff in it and as i need perhaps correct or add code in it. but most of it these days is WYSIWYG - unless youre a glutten for punishment - use Dreamweaver - end of story ;)

GoLive lets edit raw code as well.

The main thing is its integration with the other apps in the CS package. Which makes it easier for George to make everything he needs to do in one set of apps, with a consistent interface. And he already know Photoshop.
And Illustrator is great for amp layouts. Just check out what Dan did wit it.

I learned HTML by myselt as well, and still do handcorrections occasionally.
But I´m with Mark: Unless you have to, use the WYSIWYG editors.
I´d rather spend my time doing something else. Play Guitar, Mod amps, play with my son, kiss my wife...

And whatever you do: Don´t ever use Frontpage for anything !

Well, since Adobe acquired Macromedia last year...what do you think they're going to put more support into....Dreamweaver which is the web dev defacto standard or GoLive which isn't as robust or as popular? I would be more concerned with integration between design packages (i.e, ps, Illustrator, and InDesign) or motion graphic packages (premiere, after effects, photoshop, etc) than between graphics and coding. If I use imageready for rollover or something, Ilaways end up modifying the code and dropping it into the page I'm working anyway.

Yes, I know. :) I recently took on the project of re-drawing a problematic, half-realized 36 watt tmb layout that was circulating around. I wanted to create one even a newbie could build. Now we have a total working version with everything detailed, even down to what wires should cross other wires, color-coating, etc. Richie Hall and I teamed up on it...he handled the techinical aspects of the amp design (he designed it)...I did all the drawing...you can check it out here...there's also a voltage chart I did in Illustrator.

Not if you build sites for a living..heh. About the only time I use wysiwyg is when making text changes or something...even still, I always go back to code view to make sure it didn't put any weird breaks anywhere.

i think whats trying to be said here is use the tools that ya need to get the job done - for people that have been into HTML you learned the language of HTML and know the code(s) using 'what you see is what you get" editors can be like using a pod to these purists in some aspects. you usually go with what ya know... anyway if yer a newbie with it, something like dreamweaver rocks. i have used all the otehrs mentioned in this thread... what happens here is you slowly learn basic html only after you end up having to fix something. but creating pages is a snap! furthyer more i think no editor is perfect and you will end up having to tweak things thus learning some html.
now with that said and having come from leanring HTML in the old days ( basically copying code from other pages and having to tweak it from there all by hand )
i have ended up using dreamweaver ( which is by the way not only an editor it helps organize local and remote files which does come in handy< basially a FTP client)
i then use fireworks for editing of image files most of the time and photoshop for image intensive actions -
my three tools

]food for thought ;)

I'm trying to keep up with what you're saying. And I will find a wysiwyg program to help out. But for now, I need to know the code because I'm adding it to the simple text box in my shopping cart software.

I don't think they intended HTML for there, and my old WM had to change something in the software for it to work.

i hera ya George - i know this may even be too much to take in but im sure there is a way to use dreamweaver as the ftp client for your server and pull up each page in real time and drag and or copy stuff to it and upload your changes -easy as 1 2 3 ;) something to think about in the future anyway
