Sure am happy to see folks digging on American cars instead of the buzzy little Jap rods. Here in Detroit, most of my work is in our auto plants and steel mills. Every time there's a slide in the economy work gets really tight. There used to be a time when driving a Honda around here was the equivalent to flying a Japanese flag on your porch. Now, plant workers commonly drive their Lexus' to work!

Just ask George what the declining U.S. auto industry has done to his town. It's so bad they made a movie about it!

Yeah, Flint put all of their eggs into the auto industry basket. Now they have cleared out and there's nothing left.

We have THE worst economy in the US. And are always in the top 5 worst places to live and work in the US.

I'm on a 5 year plan to relocate.

I just had an interview with American Axle Manufacturing in Detroit and some of the guys were telling stories about the dubious Vice Presidents. They look up the records of who has what parking spot in the parking building to make sure it's American and/or has AAM product in it. If they see something foreign they will actually call you to your office and tell you to get rid of it by the end of the day and to never have it show up in the parking lot again.

Don't get me wrong, foreign cars have come a long way in terms of quality and they are a great value. However, I can never see myself buying one because I know i'm taking a meal off a auto workers family's table  Believe me man, as soon as I get a foundation in my career i'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO gonna get out of Michigan!

Crazy.

My Dad was a union president for the UAW for 20 years. I couldn't drive foriegn cars.

Now Hondas are made in Ohio. With UAW employes.

Hah! That's funny. I've worked at the American Axle plant here in Hamtramck many times. It's common knowledge among the union building trades that you simply don't park foreign vehicles in their lots.

True story (and you guys in MI can coroborate this)...Met a girl on a business trip there who lived in Warren, then Troy. Went back a few times to visit. She took me to a Tigers game in old Tiger stadium in '87( I think). We were driving down the Chrysler Freeway (again I think it was the Walter P). There was a Honda/Toyota something on the side of the road. She said remember that car on the way back. Fun game in a great old park. I sat with a f'n support girder between my legs. I had to lean right to watch the batter and left to see the pitcher. Anyway I digress...we went to the "Ren Cen" after the game and had dinner in Greek Town at MetroFood (had to get that in George! :-) ). Back up the freeway around the bend and the Lil Jap car was engulfed in flames. She non chalantly says "We don't like Jap cars 'round here'!!!

George, "Southern California is the place youn wanna be, so load up the truck and move to Beverly...Hills that is..."
