Absolutely Putrid Guitar playing by Slash! I think he's on Smack again!!!And that cheap Marshall Diode clipped tone...just aweful! I felt sorry for Winwood having to share the stage with that slob! Joe Bonamassa could have wiped up the stage with one hand in comparison, and he could have sung it better than Winwood....they made a poor choice for a tribute to Jimi IMO!

I remember seeing this when it aired and found it a pretty weak tribute. Maybe they chose Stevie WInwood because he played with Jimi in the studio. Slash...I like the way he plays but pretty out of place here. Personally, one of the best renditions of "Hey Joe" I've ever heard is Roy Buchanan's version....if you haven't heard it, you owe it to yourself to check it out.

Roy...Danny Gatton...Jimi...why is it all the best guitar players kill themselves? Yeah I've herd Roy's version....cool stuff! I saw Joe Bonamassa live recently, and he is without a doubt the best player I have seen in a long long time! Kinda like a cross between Eric Johnson and SRV with some Hendrix and early Clapton thrown in too! Go see him if you get the chance.NitroLiq wrote:I remember seeing this when it aired and found it a pretty weak tribute. Maybe they chose Stevie WInwood because he played with Jimi in the studio. I totally agree with the fact that Slash sucks in this vid, but I really dig the early things he did with GnR and he was one of the players that got me started in the first place.
It seems to me that a lot of rockstars kinda lose it as they get older, for example, I really dig Zakk Wylde on his early work with Ozzy and his early solo stuff but now it feels like his solos are all the same and his tone isn't that good either, or is it just me?

I kinda agree with you...what really bothers me is when someone as talented as Slash is(sometimes) "phones it in" so to speak and thinks nobody will notice....or worse just doesn't give a rats ass...and just plays stale licks with no feeling...and sloppy technique to boot...who needs to see that? Not me! Everybody gets old....FACT!...but the great players keep re-inventing themselves and challenging themselves instead of playing the same tired licks for the 4,000,000 time.NMB wrote:I totally agree with the fact that Slash sucks in this vid, but I really dig the early things he did with GnR and he was one of the players that got me started in the first place.

I know that not every one smells good man, but the old ones smell the finest!

My luck to be born into an era where Slash is old.
