I'll definitely take it if it's to be had........

After making discreet inquiries to the store owner where I teach (and he highly recommended me to him), there has been nothing further...

So right now I'm just playing the waiting game and learning a few licks from the "Steve Morse Band: Introduction" recording.... some great country chicken pickin stuff there......
Let's get going, 'cause there's too much music, too little time!!!!

Well guys it looks like it's gonna happen....

The man came in today and we had a meeting and it all seems pretty cool......

I keep forgetting that club is as much or more southern rock these days than hard core country (so I guess I'll dust off my Skynrd chops) :P

They've got 2 guitarists sitting in for the next 3 weekends until I'm up to speed.

I know both the guys: the first one I can play circles around while the second one sounds like Yngwie went to Nashville (a speed chickin' picker even).......

Now where do I go for cowboy hats???

Yngwie went to Nashville, I can hear it now.....

Cue "Devil went down to Georgia"

Yngwie went to Nashville,
lookin' for a chickin' to pick....
He was in a bind, his amp's outta grind,
and he was thinkin' of makin' a switch.....

When he come up on a buck-tooth'd boy,
who's playin' a tele makin' it sound real mean.....
He pulled up a chair and said.
"Damn, how do ya play that thing so clean????"

errr...... maybe not .......

The Marshall just looks wrong on the country stage (sounds great, but just looks wrong next to the pedal steel)

Oooooooo, that hurts.......but I have seen some nice, um, you know, among female country artists -- since you brought it up.

Big & Rich always seem to have 900/2000 series Marshalls when I see them on the tube too -- so you're a long ways ahead tone-wise, tonejones!

Well it went pretty good last night...wish I had the lead back I tried on "Good Hearted Woman", but besides that not bad at all (minimal fumbling, etc.) Gotta start working on those Major Pentatonics more!!!

In the 3rd set, my head started sounding like a popcorn machine (was mighty worried), but it ended up being a loose input jack on my guitar.

There was actually quite a few tunes that I knew (not country):

Last Dance with Mary Jane & Breakdown..... Tom Petty
Pink Houses....... John Cougar Mellonhead
the obligatory Skynyrd 3: Sweet Home, 3 Steps & Simple Man
Pride & Joy.....SRV
Knockin' on Heaven's Door
Keep Your Hands to Yourself

Was a fun night in all........

We got alot of work to do though (all of us, but me especially). The owner told me the band hasn't had a rehersal since before christmas. :o

Not only is there a new drummer, but the rather new front man's previous gig was as a solo one man show with an acoustic and a pair of full range cabs. Both the bass player & keys guy said they couldn't wait to actually have rehersals again......

One of the reasons he looked at me for the job is that in every band I've ever been in I've always been the guy that made sure (that at the very least) the landmarks are there in all of the songs & that the breaks are nice, solid & clean/etc.

So apparently for the first time in 9-10 months, there's going to be a regular weekly band rehersal.......

All of this plus it's the busiest club in town every weekend!!!!!

On a last note one thing got my attention hard: As I was walking into the club the music being played over the PA was some damn good Southern Rock I had never heard before....

It ended up being the Kentucky Headhunters!!!! I always thought those guys were Couuuuuuntry country, but hell no!!!! These 2 songs (off a live release) sounded better than most of the stuff on any classic rock station (can you say Deep Purple & Skynyrd had a child??)!!!

Damn good songs and a damn nice Marshall sound in there as well!!!
Let's get going, 'cause there's too much music, too little time!!!!

When the country artist wants to do a country album, they call the country players. When the same artist wants to sell a lot of albums, they call the rock guys.

Glad the gig worked out for you :) :) .

Mike
Never settle for an amp thats smaller then you are.
