Theyre really doing it and, for that genre of music which I loved a lot as a kid, I think its not bad at all. Not to disagree with some of you guys about technique. I agree. Ive always said technique is a means to an end. If you only think about the means and not the end youll suck no matter how fast you can play. You can teach a chimp to type on a keyboard he wont give you Homer. The 'end' is the important part. Some greats have pretty feeble 'means' if you know what I mean. Anyway I liked it well enough. Its certainly Beethoven compared to some of the nonsense shredders out there. CC is certainly known for that kind of death metal shred playing.

Thanks to those who supported what I was saying about that this was them actually playing.
I didn't post this to say oooh look this is the best whatever. I know that I am one of about 3-4 players on this forum who even think about looking/listening to this style of music. I just saw it and said to myself that it would be interesting to see what others thought of his playing technique.
I had to laugh at some of the responses. Sure it's not your thing so be it. Never claimed I was trying to convert anyone. The speeding the tape up ala Air guitar argument had me rolling. Think about what you said because by the very same context of your statement I could lump Batio, Malmsteen, Gilbert, plus a whole slew of shredders who blaze away the night speedwise. Pat O'Brien can shred, he just chooses to shred rhythms.
Either way Figured some of you would get a kick out of the original post. I really didn't think of getting the same sort of response I used to get way back in the early 80's when I first started showing this type of music to guys who were in their heyday in the late 70's.
Rock On!!!!

Necrovore,no need to apologize for posting what you enjoy, not all of us can 'appreciate',this style of playing, they certainly must have practiced a lot.System of a Down, has a little more dynamics, they actually stop at certain points, and play slower.
Good for you man!Admitedly some of us are kinda stuck in the seventies and eighties, the drop tuning craze and seven string guitar playing.
Imo Steve Vai really plays the 7-string,but I try to listen to all current music.
I posted these kids playing,as they play with reverence towards, that old sixties, seventies music, lol!!

I agree, though that drop tuning stuff as well as the 7 string stuff isnt for me. Now that I say this, yes I kow that some great stuff was played using a dropped tuning, but today these kids use it so they can do single fingered power chords, which isnt using the tuning to its fullest potential like Page would do. As for the 7 string..... If you can't do it on 6 then why bother. that is unless you are Steve Vai.yngwie308 wrote:Necrovore,no need to apologize for posting what you enjoy, not all of us can 'appreciate',this style of playing, they certainly must have practiced a lot.System of a Down, has a little more dynamics, they actually stop at certain points, and play slower.

That was always the reason I never really got into CC when I was in HS. I was into just about anything else DM. MorbidA, Diecide, Death, Slayer, Pantera, Sepultura, FF etc... But CC rhythms were always too busy for me to get the same adreneline factor I got with other bands.Necrovore wrote:Think about what you said because by the very same context of your statement I could lump Batio, Malmsteen, Gilbert, plus a whole slew of shredders who blaze away the night speedwise. Not bad for that no-name strat, and with the scalloped fingerboard,no less!
Good finger stretches, now he needs to practice slinging the guitar over his head, but may have to slim down first.LOL!!
I was looking for a tempo change and some wicked vibrato, but I am used to listening to Yngwie after all.
The 90 minutes I watched him play four feet away last year, will be a memory that will stay with me forever, many may try,but all fall short of his mark!

Check this dude with his Steve Stevens Washburn, with Laney half stack and metal pedal.

I think the bare feet adds to his 'technique'.
