You cant count manhattan locations. Thier like the best ones accept probably Hollywood. Theyre flagship stores. I have to stop in them when Im there.NitroLiq wrote:Weeeelll...the GC around the corner from where I work in NYC (14th St) also has the JTM-100 and the Hendrix stack...I played through the JTM100 a few weeks ago. Their vintage section is fun to peruse (not price-wise) as they usually have a nice assortment...last time I went, they had a few super PAs, DR103, boatload of old Marshalls, voxes, fenders, and gibsons...and even a Selmer.Billy Batz wrote:Damn. You could add up all the GCs on the road from Philly to NY and you wouldnt find those 2 amps. Then again its rock land over there. Over here the section with turn tables and comuter stuff is probably larger.

Hey, Billy... the Manhattan GC is "ok", but is still pretty typical GC. Easily the best guitar store in the city is my man Matt's store, 30th St. Guitars, on 30th st., between 7th and 8th ave. Not only does he have an awesome selection of guitars and amps, but they do excellent repairs, and Matt is one of the nicest, most honest guys you'll ever meet. Forget 48th St. (aka "music row") Its more or less a tourist attraction, with most of the stores being overpriced. Manny's is cool if you wanna see all their autographed photos, like the autographed Hendrix/Experience photo, among about a thousand others, but I wouldnt buy any more than strings there. The only other store worth checking out (just to look at stuff) is Matt Umanov's in the Village, but again, lots of rock star attitude, and overpriced. Other than that, probably one of the best stores in the country is Mandolin Bros in Staten Island. Stan (the owner) is a pretty decent guy, once you get past his intellectual attitude. He really does know his stuff, and is extremely helpful with anything guitar. PS--Nitro, the Selmer I saw had a power cord with masking tape PARTLY covering some wire, while some was actually open and exposed. If the one you saw is the same amp, they must have (gasp!!!) actually fixed it. (doubtful, though... its probably a different amp).
