Many of you aren't following the rules. Just one song the man said. Not what are your favorite songs and artists.

Me? Just one song? Sweetleaf by Black Sabbath. That song formed me man. With the stereo up all the way I have never heard a more chest crushing powerful rif.

>>>chest crushing powerful rif
excellent description Bluesgeetar!

the original form - the first, very first thing that flung me out of normal human orbit and into mental patient orbit was PINBALL WIZARD. that Dsus to a D - was so damn musical to my young ears and i could freakin' play it - i felt like i was conjurring naked beauties out of a national geographic (the stuff of a 9 year old's dreams) - it was an unnatural power and beauty that i could make happen with my own little fingers - i played it on the piano too - and i realized that it wasn't the guitar that was the magic - it was the vibe of that suspended chord resolving into a major 3rd... my pulse is racing right now thinking about the original thrill of that.

short answer: pinball wizard.

Absofukinlutely !
Now we're back on track !
You gotta start some where, right?.... The "1" song/tune that made you go 'that's it ! I'm gonna be a rock'n roll star !"
Sure there are many influences, which I have myself but, to wear a groove in that record or wear out that tape head is what I'm talkin' bout !
"The" song that made you get a guitar & amp.
Although I do not have my first amp which was a Sears tube amp of some sort that I bought for $10, I still have my Teisco Del Ray.
Paid $25 for it off a friend and bastardized it before I even started playing. Everytime I look at that guitar I think of how I started. How lucky I was that it had a whammy!
I knew it was gonna be fun with all those switches it had but when I got my Big Muff Pi. the dive bombs & feedback cried Jimi !

and on Sweetleaf well, growing up as a kid it went like this for me :
BeachBoys, Beatles, Elvis right to Master of Reality !
Sweeteaf was a mind blowing tune that I played as loud as I could and soaked up the tones like a sponge. It moved me musically
and was probably the song that set up the "1" song that formed me...

One particular summer in junior high we were hanging at my house (mom & dad at work  ). One of the "cool, older" guys pulled Master and Machine Head out of my record box and said "Holy Shit" you have these???? We played (only) those 2 LP's ALL summer long. The girls hated it!

No idea what it was or even who they were, but I was REALLY young and we were trick or treating one halloween night in Houston, Texas. Must have been the early 60's.
I saw some "older" kids in a garage playing (the door was up). All I remember was being totally amazed that right there in front of me was music, real rock and roll being played and it sounded perfect to me. You know, just like the record.
I could have stayed for hours, but the family drug me away and I haven't been the same since.
My best memory was that they were playing through little Vox combos, but that may be distorted with time, but it was perfect sounding I tell you.

Okay Bluesgeetar, just one Voodoo Chile [Slight return],that's the one song,I even have a 45 rpm single on Track from England, with a b/w picture sleeve, plus my original Hendrix LP's including the English Electric Ladyland, changing hands now for as high as $1K for mint, which mine is,the average price $800.I will never sell it though they can cremate it with me.
If any of you have heard the original English pressing vinyl Voodoo Chile[Slight Return],it is unbelievable.soars all over the place with just plain old stereo and two speakers!

No shit ! Something like that happened to me too !
These older guys in a basement were playing Day Tripper and My Generation even with the studdering ! Exactly how I heard it on the radio.
My first expirience to how you described it. Whatta thrill that was for a young punk like me.
I think that did something to me 'cuz I still remember it !

happened to me too!!

it was at a talent show at the local jr. high school - this kid played drums and he brought in his "older" brother to play guitar - they played "Long Train Runnin'" - just the 2 of them and it totally kicked ass - i remember the guy played it with a wha-wha and he was playing it in a Hendrix style - playing the main riff with a lot of "wocka-wocka" scratching in between the chords -
All I remember was being totally amazed that right there in front of me was music, real rock and roll being played and it sounded perfect to me.

The first actual song that made me want to play the guitar was a live version of "Left Eye" by Buddy Guy -- and then I could think about nothing but playing blues.... although, as a piano player as well the first album that inspired me to be a musician was probably the "Leon Live" Album by Leon Russell..

I grew up with a piano in the house,(my mother is a great piano player) and even used to play the kiddie songs with the little neighbor girl, but then when I was in the 7th
grade, VH came out with You really Got Me, Eruption, and I thought that was great and all, but then one day when I was in the 8th grade I went to kegger party in the valley, and there was this guy siting on the couch playing, Eruption, Spanishfly, DOA, so exact like it was the man himself. And to have someone so accurately play that 1ft in front of you was mind blowing. This guy had built a Frankenstrat Replica back then, With Charvel neck, Strat Body,SH5 Duncan PU. I remember him explaining this stuff to me like it was yesterday, and he was just playing through a pignose, and had a couple pedals. Maybe a Phaser and a Flanger. VH2 had just came out, and this guy already had it mastered to a level that I've never ever seen.
Not Ralle, not Mark, not Curt, not even the guys in the many tribute bands. He was that good. It was sureal, and it made me want to play guitar. So I'd have to say Spanish Fly, but Eruption was a close second.

I sure know what your talkin about. I can still remember being in such "wonder" of Ed, M.Schenker etc. Trying to learn and play that stuff at 12 years old, and then seeing somone play it right in front of me. To this day, those rear loaded Charvel type strats(ala the yellow and black EVH guitar type) are what I love, cause that was what the guy was playing, and it blew my mind.
