Verizon has their phone on serious lock-down because they want you to purchase ring tones from their VCast service. The phone only comes with elevator/musak midi files...all really bad too. Correct me if I'm wrong...but...even when you do upload MP3s to the phone...it will not allow you to put them in your ring tone directories.

Sprint & Cingular's RAZRs aren't as locked-down.

I got a razr V3C and used Motorola tools to upload/download images and tunes. There are lots of sites on phone hacking out there.

Mine didn't come with the phone tools. I'll see if I can find it. Are you guys able to upload MP3s & use them as ring tones?

Yup!

You can get phone tools on the net and it will actually break songs into clips for ringtones.

The problem for me is that, while phone tools let you manipulate the MP3s, it doesn't allow you to choose the directory you want to place them.

On the Verizon phone....there's an MP3 directory and a ring tones directory. I can't put my MP3s in the ring tone directory without hacking the phone. The current Verizon software (if you can even call it that) doesn
