eBay scam question
Got an e-mail from eBay saying I have an upaid item, but the body of the e-mail has a question from a "potential buyer" asking how much they owe me. I clicked the link to the ad, but it says I must login. URL to the login screen is very long, not like a normal eBay screen. Could this be one of those sites that record your keystrokes? Glad I didn't even type the password, just closed it. Thanks for any info.

Definitely fishing for passwords. I forward any email like that to spoof@ebay.com they will soon write back and tell you that they didn't send it. And to immediately change your password if you logged in there.

You'll be ok. I like to leave little messages for them. I got one particulary amusing "Ebay" mail that asked for bank deatils, social security number etc... I generally type "Dear retard scammer, how thick do you think i am? etc.. etc.."
If in doubt. lose down all windows, open a fresh explorer window, go to Ebay using your own safe route then check t your messages on your account.

I get the fake Paypal 'messages' every so often,I think these scammers watch Ebay auctions and hope your ebay name is the same as your email address and I just delete them.
I have had 67 viruses detected in the past few days and lost the abillity to click on a picture as wallpaper on the right click, and the appearances window for wallpaper to work,it is whited out,and I went through all this Windows gobblygook to try and fix it,yet when I log out of Windows, the wallpaper briefly flashes,as the computer turns off.
The whole time i have a blue wallpaper screen, and this just occured by itself!
In the early days of this computer I had to reload Windows twice, and now I lost the ability to restart the computer from an earlier date.
My $3200 dollar Sony Vaio RC210G has been nothing but a nightmare for the two years I have had it!

EVERYBODY needs to have the best firewall & antivirus they can get. & get used to formatting & reloading! I hear the Komodo free firewall is decent. I'm still trying to find one to work better with Vista!

I was reading that formatting your hard drive isn't really a solution as it doesn't remove the virus, but instead buries it deeper. Has anyone else read that?45auto wrote:EVERYBODY needs to have the best firewall & antivirus they can get. & get used to formatting & reloading! I hear the Komodo free firewall is decent. Not sure if the folks trying to steal my account got it off an auction b/c I haven't purchased anything from the site in a year.

Reformatting your hard drive will take care of a virus...but it's a lot of work and should be a last resort...unless you're into that kind of thing.npminard wrote:I was reading that formatting your hard drive isn't really a solution as it doesn't remove the virus, but instead buries it deeper. i'm really hard on windows i guess, i try to keep very little on my main drive so i can format whenever necessary. which for me is every few months! a nice clean install runs so well for awhile, but gets bogged down before you know it.
