Jon brought his amp to the shop today and we blew up some tubes. And some ear drums. We've decided you need Sozo caps in your amp.

OKAY DAD! HA HA
I've been thinking about ordering a whole set and sticking them in my horny beast. Then thing that i'm getting from everyone is that they are extremely clear and don't get mushy even at crazy volume levels - 10 please! If the caps would do something around that sort of effect i would be sold immediately.
By the way, do you remember when we did that noise reduction mod on my amp by doing the coax on some part of the board? Were those caps or resistors that were in the shrink wrap. I sure wouldn't want to have to take all that shrink wrap off.
Thanks d00d

Those were resistors. All the Sozo's would go on the board itself.
I think we found some tubes that won't blow up under full load for an hour at a time. JJ's.
I'm really surprized by this latest batch of Winged "C" EL-34's. They usually hold up to the 500+ voltages in my old Marshalls. But the 470 in my kits is arching them.

I'm sure glad i switched from Sveltana to JJ after hearing that mess!

Yeah, that really concerns me. Those (formerly) Svetlanas were always really robust. I used them in my old heads and they always held up well. I hope there hasn't been a change in quality. I don't think there has. Hopefully it's just a fluke.

Just placed my order for the Sozo caps. I'll be soldering the suckers in Friday afternoon!
Has anyone found a break-in period for these caps? If so how many hours?

John (from Sozo) has a page on his site about this. I have to admit that I was skeptical at first, but I really did hear a difference as they "broke in".
They sounded really good at first and then kinda sweetened up.
Let us know what you find.

Wow. 100 hours of play to fully break in a cap?! I'll have to practice away. The 80's have been calling me lately, so i guess i'll practice right hand finger tapping. Its something that i've never learned so i guess i'll mess with it and hear my new caps break in while i dilly dally in 80's virtuoso guitar style.
