No offense taken. Never paid a dime to them. A friend gave me the DVD he had a a copy of, and I had already figured out many of these things on my own.

Like thinking about what you have, not what you don't have. I've allways said that.

Or when mourning the loss of my Grandfather, choosing what I'm going to think about, so I didn't get overwhelmed with sadness and existentialism. That was a dark period for me when he died back in 99. Made me question everything I believe. I had to finaly take control, and make a conscience effort to stop thinking about it.

Or even when I was a kid, when I watched a scary movie, my mom told me to picture something good, and you won't have a nightmare. It works.
That also can translate to if you're in a break up, and thinking about you ex, and can't sleep, just picture something or someone else. done this stuff all my life. I called it changing the channel in your mind.

The placebo effect is to me the best evidence of the power of the mind.
So maybe there is something to this.

Not saying I buy the Visualize being rich and you'll get rich sitting on your couch, but I do agree a positive attitude goes along way in attracting good people in your life, oportunities, and good health, and that a negative one will push people away, and could hurt your health. I believed and experienced all these things from my own experiences before seeing this DVD. Everything except the Visualising being rich stuff.
And yes they are a business so I sift through that part, but I will try the visualize what you want stuff just the same. Can't hurt, but I won't be sitting on my couch.

Mike,
I apologize if I appeared flippant in my reply. Your post just seemed strange to me at first.

I agree with you about keeping a positive attitude. Thanks for sharing your experiences from the heart. We're all human, aren't we? Okay, maybe not Larry. Just kidding!

I had to turn it off after half way. Now I am about to say a few things that might offend but thats not my intention. I want to state a few facts.

These things are common sense. It ain't no fun to be around negative people. If there is a complainer where you work and all they do is complain then it brings everyone around them down too, it's no secret.

If we stop concentrating our efforts on negative thoughts and concentrate on positive thoughts, then you will feel better and your mind will be clear and focused to achieve the things you want, it's no secret.

If you show confidence towards others, either your peers or in a relationship, they will be attracted to you. People are attracted to confidence. It's no secret.

The only person stopping you from what you want to do with your life is you, It's no secret.

Self help and motivational speakers practice a form of brainwashing. There is nothing wrong with positive thinking and it's no secret, but you still have to be in touch with reality. I am getting ready to buy my first income property. I have a plan and I am motivated to succeed. I picture myself buying many pieces of income property and supporting myself with this financially. I focus on the benefits. If I concentrated on all the downsides of this responsibility I will live in apartments the rest of my life. It's no secret.

:D

I need to put an ad in a national publication:

I have the secret to success! Send me $20 and I'll tell it to you.

After they send you 20 bucks you tell them the "big secret":

Put an ad in a national publication, it should say, "I have the secret to success! Send me $20 and I'll tell it to you."

None of what any of you guys say offends me. I agree that most of the Secret is common sense too, except for that visualization stuff. I figured it out on my own before watching the DVD to deal with what life throws at me, and some I created, as listed ealier before. What blew me away was watching a DVD where they were going over so many philosphies that I already lived by and that had already changed my life so much, and presenting it in a way to help others. It's been a long journey and I've been reaping some rewards already. So when I watch a DVD, and they just described what I do like this, I was totally taken back.

There's other philosophies I live by, "Like I cried becasue I had no shoes until I saw someone who had no feet", and helping others less fortunate really helps you. Or treat others as you would have them treat you.

To me it is common sense or a philosophy to live by, and it is not a religion. Don't even like saying that word....Yuck

Yeah it's funny they call it a secret, but maybe to some people who haven't figured it out yet, it is. There's a lot of people who don't have common sense. I'm still leary about the visualize what you want stuff, but I loved the stuff they were talking about, that I was already doing. I just never looked at it as a whole package before.

I'm a skeptic too, but this DVD kinda blew me away on so many things, that I will try visualizing what I want. I figure it can't hurt, and it doesn't cost anything to do. Hell I didn't even pay for the DVD. So when I wake up I'll visualize that million dollars, the Mansion, and check back in a year to see if it worked. If I get it, drinks are on me.

Im with you on both points. although, I found the film to be too much common sense and not enough substance. It boiled down to think positive and visualize, hardly the Secret they claim it to be.

I watched the film, "What the Bleep Do We Know" a couple years back.
About the brain and our percepsion of reality.
I found it to be far far more interesting.

Here's a ten minute segment, the part about water, two minutes in, is worth a little pondering.

I think it's human nature that everybody needs something to believe in whether it be religion, self-help philosophy, or any other kind of meditation

Very Interesting.
Went on Wikipedia and was checking out that What the Bleep do we know thing about the water, and here's what it said.

"Masaru Emoto's work (The Hidden Messages in Water) plays a prominent role in a scene set in a light-rail tunnel, where the main character happens upon a presentation of displays showing images of water crystals. In the movie, "before" and "after" photographs of water are presented as evidence that specific words written on pieces of paper and affixed to different containers of water have the power to transform the water into being able to freeze into beautiful crystalline shapes instead of ugly crystalline shapes.[19]

Emoto's work is criticised for being more artistic than scientific. His doctoral certification is on alternative medicine from an unaccredited institution[20]. His work has never been subjected to peer review, and he does not utilize double blind methodology. Emoto also claims that polluted water does not crystallize. Depending on the properties of the pollutant, heavily polluted water will still form crystals, though the crystals may contain more crystallographic defects than pure water would. These changes in the way the crystals form can be readily explained using basic chemistry and physics.

Emoto appears to have arbitrarily decided what constitutes a "brilliant crystal" and an "incomplete crystal." James Randi has characterized Emoto's work as nonsense, pseudoscience and quackery.[21]
