Recording notes: Mics used were some small pencil condenser that I have never seen before. I asked, but can't remember the brand. Older brand that is no longer in business and had 3 letters as the name. Leads have a smidgen of verb and slight delay to them. Delay on leads sounds nicer than chorus IMO on leads. Makes them sound less processed.
Bass was straight in and used a Sansamp plugin.
Drums were miked with SM-57's for the snare and rack toms, a small condenser pencil like what was used for the guitars was on the hats. Kicks were those AKG types that have that green plastic trim across the front of them as well as triggered. Our drummer uses a DM-5 and I have him use the Power Kick patch. He runs that into a graphic and then into a BBE Sonic Maximiser/direct box. At rehearsal it sounds like a typewriter much to our chagrin, but listen to how it sounds on the recordings. No jacking with the drums tone except to bring up the highs on the kick at the recording computer to get that click to show up so you can tell that he is doing double kicks.
Vocals were done using a light dose of Lone Star beer, some Highlander Scotch shots, and Ozarka bottled water. Less than a smidgen of verb on the vocals. They are almost dry.
Funny thing is that my leads were still at the time of the recording were not finished being written. I am lazy like that. Leads are cool , but I am self conscious about my ability. I just told Stewart(the engineer) to let me play along with the rhythm tracks for a bit. Each one once the spot was over he said ok that sounds good to me and stopped tape. Nailed both of those leads in first shot deals. I am a bit unsatisfied with the end of the first lead, but ah well. Its rock -n- roll right? I just had the highlights of the leads down, just the connecting to those dots were unwritten
Protools was the DAW we were going into. I was really impressed with using it. I would have to say that punch ins were the easiest I have ever experienced in recording. They were done before we were actually ready to record them. I guess the key to recording is being prepared and know the songs backwards and forwards before going in. Half the time we were playing along to the punch ins and the engineer was rolling tape when we thought we were just playing along to them. Luckily I think that all except like 2 punch ins were all first takes. There was one exptended piece thtat both us guitarists had to play along at the same time as we key visually off eachother. This piece was actually not in time halfway through due to drummer so that needed to be broken into two separate takes, but we covered for Mr. Metronome that one and only time.
I will post what types of mikes were all used once I speak with Stewart this week. during setup my mind was on my amps and guitars. Sorry guys.

Aaaaargh, so cool , I love the " De mysteriis..." Album. The new one "Ordo ad Chao" is also killer !! Total insane riffing .
