Long Live Phill Lynott and Thin Lizzy !

I have been liistening to alot of Thin Lizzy lately, and am alway's so "entertained" both musically and spiritually, as that music is so good ! After listening to "Nightlife", much of the "Fighting" and "Jailbreak" albums , "Live And Dangerous", as well as "Vagabonds Of The Western World" (Eric Bell, hell yeah !) I am still in awe of how those songs communicate. Each one is like a good book. Phill was one of the best songwriters I've ever heard, as well as lyricist. The guitarist's, predominately Robertson and Gorham, always played for the whole of the song, thus, to me, help made Thin Lizzy into one of the Greatest bands of all time. The drummer, Downey, also, with his jazz influenced dynamics, placed the band in a whole other league. Gary Moore also played, to me, his finest solo's while in this group. I alway's wish I owned a good Les Paul after listening to them. Long Live Phill Lynott !

Nice one Tone Slinger! Yes you can't go wrong with Lizzy one of my great influences and how I first heard the great Gary Moore.

Dedication,this was put together after Phillips death as the last Thin Lizzy tune,it is actually from his Grand Slam band.
Robbo has a Travis Bean and his 70's Strat in these clips as well as his way cool LP Custom,with the two HB's.

I haven't had a lot of opertuinity(how do you spell that?) to listen to Thin Lizzy, what would you guys say are their 3-4 best albums. I'll hit up the used record shop in my area and pick up a few once I get my latest pay check. Everytime I've heard them on the radio, or at partys, I love em.

Live and Dangerous,the live album,is the height of Lizzy,Black Rose of course,and the BBC Sessions CD is absolutely killer,with Gary Moore.
Jailbreak is ok,Thunder and Lightning features John Sykes and has classics like Holy War.
You might get Gary Moore's Wild Frontier album as well,it is a tribute to Phil and has some of Gary's finest Celtic/rock material.

So...once I get my check, I will look for Jailbreak, Black Rose, and Live and Dangerous of vinyl for the Lizzy, and Wild Frontier for Gary Moore also vinyl.
I will keep an eye open for the BBC Sessions CD since every time I hear a BBC Sessions collection, I enjoy it.
What would you say is Lizzy's rawest album? I really love when music has that old school grit that no one gets nowadays.

Kenny, CORRECTION.... The Thin Lizzy BBC Sessions CD is called:
The Peel Sessions... from the late great DJ John Peel and his BBC radio show
My copy is on Strange Fruit Records out of NY and the # is DE18136-2
manufactured and distributed by Dutch East India Trading
PO Box 800, Rockville Center,NY 11571-0800
This CD really captures them at their best.
Also highly reccomended is Gary Moore's Live in Isstadion Stockholm
Wild Frontier VHS tape 1987,this is one of Gary's best ever shows,with the amazing drumming of Eric Singer,later with Kiss and the amazing Bob Daisley on bass and the brilliant Neil Carter on Vocals,Keybords and Guitar.

I say if you want Thin Lizzy's best stuff, get "Night Life" from '74 ,"Fighting" from '75, "Jailbreak" from '76. All three of these have the band in top form. But, like Dave (brotha yngwie308 that is) said, the "Live and Dangerous" album is also a great starting point, as it has all the great songs on it. But alot of the songs that I like werent on it, like "Fight or Fall" , "Showdown"etc. Thin Lizzy also put out a couple of albums before the afore mentioned. I do not consider these "classic" Thin Lizzy, cause they hadnt 'solidified' thier style yet. The guitarist at this time (Eric Bell) was extremely good, and had a very origional style, and some of the songs on "Vagabonds Of The Western World" like "In Bloom" and "Little Black Boy On The Corner" were great. It was the "Night Life" album that was the start of the classic "Thin Lizzy" sound.Guitarists Brian Robertson and Scott Gorham along with the Lynott/Downey combo proved to be a perfect combination. Gary Moore also played on two albums, he soloed on "I'm Still In Love With You" on "Night Life", as well as playing many of the solo's and rhythms on "Black Rose". Phill was such a gifted songwriter.
