Saw ZZ top, the Cats, Pretenders and Stevie Nicks ( :? ) last night.

Setzer is a great f'n player and was getting killer rockabill tone out of the 6120 2-12 Blonde Bassman / Spade echo (natch!) then ruened it up and got into pretty crucnhing tone, too.

The Rev and Hill were playing out of CR8TE stacks ( :?: ). At least that's what was on stage. You never know with Billy. He did have some killer tone, though. For once I left a recent concert thinking, "Man that was loud!" Yeah baby... 8)

Chief Crates are killer, I have had one form or other of Vintage Club Crate for over 10 years! For me they kill and are more portable than the Marshalls and easier around the house, all mine have been Class A EL-84 driven, Joe Walsh plays 'em too, the Rev. is a serious tone guru, so I feel good about my choice, I always substitute Celestion G12H-30 Anniversary speakers, as there is more bass response than the very good Crate Vintage speaker, that has paper construction and vintage specs.. :D

Hmmmm, there are some that say Billy is using a Mojave Scorpion (custom rackmount in this case)...

I don't see the particular cr8te amps that he had on stage on the crate website either.

I have played some crate's that are pretty good sounding.

The tone he had at the show was thick and dripping, sounding a lot like what Mark and Ralle and Stan have been posting lately.

IOW...fuckin blistering!

I just saw them at Red Rocks, row 6 baby! (No Stevie Nicks). The Stray Cats brought the house down! :!:

ZZ top was flanked by two matching stacks of Crate amps with 6 total cabs in each stack. I did like Billy Gibbons' tone but I didn't like the cab sound I was hearing (too much like cardboard boxes). But overall the amp sound was good. I wouldn't be surprised if he was playing through the Mojave and using the cabs as stage monitors. Hard to tell.

Ha, I was there at Red Rocks, too, in the 15th row. From my spot, I couldn't hear the stage volume at all, just FOH. The FOH sounded fantastic. I was guessing that the Crates were just for show. They were all on (nice tube glow through the front screens) and they all had plugs in the input jacks, but from Billy's rep I was thinking his wireless went into a different amp altogether, probably off-stage with his tech who runs all his effects.

Yeah, Stray Cats rocked. I wish they had more time and had could have swapped places with the Pretenders (who didn't do much for me).

Sounds like a fun time. Too bad about the Pretenders (accurate name) and Stevie.

Never saw ZZ live, but whatever was going on at the VH-1 Rock Honors this year wasn't very good at all. Very harsh buzz saw-like tone that even the Rev's skills couldn't rescue. I'm guessing it was much better at your venue.

Setzer is a bad billy mofo. Gotta love it.
