Hi HH!
Like Fill said - some great people here and a combined level of expertise that is UNSURPASSED anywhere in cyberspace. Your best shot at the ultimate JTM45 - whatever that is in YOUR mind - is here with a kit from Metro and all the folks that will help you endlessly tweak it until (and beyond) you have your dream amp.
Welcome!
Fuck it.

Welcome!

I must admit, I have strayed from the Metro board. I went for the MM Epi Valve Jr upgrade, have problems with it and the "support" on the sewatt forum website PALES in comparison to Metros. If it was a Metro kit I know for sure it would have been running days ago. Not that the sewatt forum is bad. It is that this forum is EXTREMELY unique in it's folowing, devotion, dedication and participation. There is something very special going on around these "hear" parts!

Chief, it's because months and months ago, over at 18w, someone modded a VJ, then all of a sudden every newbie known to man discovered they could buy a cheap amp and mod it into a slightly better, little less crappier amp. VJ threads took over 18w as did "know-it-all" attitudes from said newbs...sewatt and all the other sites were created as a result and have alot of the same people. Personally, I think these VJ mods sound like "ass" but to each their own. You'd be better off building Richie Hall's "Beast" which is a modded higher gain Fender Champ.

Hi HH,

I have built the ultimate JTM 45 using the Metro kit, NOS mustards, NOS tubes and can tell you that it is a gorgeous sounding and feeling amp.

I have availed of the forum here hundreds of times and it took me from a 'noob' to a level where I can build like I've been at it for 20 years. I have a good understanding of the plexi circuit and the how and why of what makes these amps so elegant, and superior even 40 years+ after their inception - staggering tone and feel and truly deserving of being called an instrument, not just an amp.

If I can offer one piece of advice or a suggestion to you, it is that your search for the best guitar tones in the world will undoubtly end here at the home of Metroamp and with the hundreds of tone maestro forum members that are more than happy to assist and coach you on your journey, you're as good as gold!

Welcome aboard!

I have seen some mentions of the "Beast" in various threads. I'll look into it, Nitro. I played the modded head and combo in the MM both at the Amp Show and they did really kick ass. Their modded Champ 600 was pretty cool, too. But after dicking with PC board and trace cuts, etc I think I'll stay away from that shit and stick with PTP stuff. I thnk Epi is throwing a curve as well as the version 3 PCB has a very dark solder mask on it making it very difficult to see the circuit. I am bummed that I blew the $$$ on the MM kit thinking that the instructions would be as detailed or as supported as Metro. I've been spoiled! I do have the tubes glowing but I still can't an sound out. Before I trash it and install a PTP I am on a "Fuck you, Jo-boo" mission to make it work.

This is one of the best sites for amp building no matter what amp. Sure theres other sites with a lot of expertise with other amps but a lot of pedantic bullshit too. Many people here have built more then just marshalls.
