Does anyone have have red that book, 'Strange Brew: Eric Clapton & The British Blues Boom 1965-1970' (2007), by Christopher Hjort? What's your thoughts about it?

Its a really detailed book. I liked reading it alot. The big acts, centers mostly around Peter Green, Eric Clapton, and to a lesser extent Mick Taylor (the Rolling Stones only get mentioned and reported on after he joins).

It is extremely thourough, goes day by day with each group. Even tells you when Ginger Baker had an ear infection n' stuff like that.

I'd recommend it.

I have it, and enjoyed it a lot. As Herec says it

Does the information about the equipment those players used accurate? Is it a reliable source?

When you look at it, almost all of the guitar based music most of us plays started in this period, in London.

One is thing sure, Clapton is the starting point of the Les Paul into a cranked Marshall. As Jimmy Page said in the book, Clapton should have total credit for that.

...or is it a cigarette pack? Personally, what I see in that pic is a LP, a coil cable plugged into a Y cable, plugged into the Normal/input 2 of his Marshalls.

well it does not look like a cigarette pack. prop just a splitter box

Look over at Plexi Palace for the ongoing Rangemaster debate, is it a UFO or Rangemaster .
What I find unusual is that Eric has never to my knowledge talked about using a Rangemaster in any interview...

Yeah, I've read those. Me too I find it unusual that Clapton never mentionned it and there's no picture to totally prove it.

You know, I've heard people getting close and even nailing VH brown sound. But I haven't heard anyone getting close to Clapton's tone with Mayall or Cream. At least not that I'm aware of.
