My band

Post by flemingmras » Thu Apr 22, 2004 5:31 pm

U know, as much as I love playing with my band, I don't know why I'm even with them. I mean, we're a great band and all...but GOD DAMN the fucking songs that my bass player picks for us to learn!

A couple are cool, like Just a Girl by No Doubt, or Jet's Are You Gonna Be My Girl, but EDWIN MCCAIN'S I'LL BE!!!!???? WHAT THE FUCK!!!??? I thought we were all about rock n' fuckin' roll! I think I wasted my time building a Marshall. I should switch back to my blackface '65 Pro Reverb or something if I'm gonna continue this shit!

I can't believe I'm being forced to learn this shit! I mean come on, my bass player gets disappointed when I don't learn ALL the songs I'm supposed to, but yet he expects me to learn all his shit and then I wanna do a song as simple as Stranglehold(simple on everyone elses parts and now it's simple for me now that I've played it note for note dozens of times) and I get "Oh well, that's not really a danceable song" when come on we all know that that song would definitely get the audience going. WHAT THE FUCK!!!???

If this shit continues I'm finding a different band. I'm just gonna tell the band tonight that I couldn't download a copy of that song and leave it at that. And just hope to God that they never bring that song up again.

Yea bro how about some OLD VH and Billy Idol. They have some very danceable tunes if that is what they want. Or some ZZ top, Free. And hell everyone can dance to Kid Rock! Cowboy!

One of the most popular bands around here for dance type gigs is a group called "that 70's Band" Mainly cause the people that can pay are closer to that generation of music I think.

Man for our 20 year reunion we paid a dude $75 an hour to play mp3s.

Hell I didnt think kids danced anymore, they just jump around slamming into each other and seeing how stupid they could be lol. Ok so Im a old fart that likes hard rock.

As Hagar would say Its in my blood!

Ya man just leave! I have the same problem happening to you except with you its with a different type bass player... a churchy bassist. I have to say that you are the odd man in the band Jon. In all the pics i see happy faced New-Born Christians and then there is Jon rocking out hard with cigarrette smoke curling around ya and the scent of trashy light beers! FUCK YEA! I'm sure there are many bands out there that would like to have your skill incorporated within' their band.

Well guys, the time has come. I have started looking for a new band. My band basically has become nothing but a job for me. You show up, you play, you get paid, you go home. I have just learned that my "rock n' roll" attitude has been offending everyone, even the band members, for quite some time. Except I had to find out for myself from a 3rd person since this has been going on behind my back.

U know it's funny, this band came looking for me, not me looking for them. And from day one I warned them about my flashy style and rock n' roll attitude and they said that that's exactly what they wanted. Now all of a sudden it has become a problem!? What the fuck!? On top of which, I've already become accustomed to the fact that I'll never get laid at one of their shows since our whole crowd is married or taken in some way.

On top of that, my dorky ass bass player basically says "OK were gonna learn these songs for next week" and when he says that, we'd all better have them learned by next week, even if we don't like 'em(which, BTW I NEVER like ANY of the songs he picks). However, when I ASK to do certain songs, it's like pulling teeth to get them to do them! If they don't like them we ain't doin' them! On top of that, we have no flash! I've tried and tried to put it into the band and no luck.

So I'm looking for a band and I'm being very picky this time. Until then, I'm just gonna show up, play, get paid and go home. I mean, that's gonna suck for them once my new band is cocked, locked and ready to rock cause then I'm gonna have to leave them and they're gonna be left with a whole bunch of gigs coming up and no guitar player, but oh well such is life. Their loss, not mine.

Hey Jon,

I just had a thought. D'ya think our infamous 'Guest' might be your bass player? Maybe one of his friends?

Anyway, LEAVE RIGHT NOW! What's keeping you from leaving them with a bunch of gigs and no guitar player right now? That way you can focus all your time and energy on getting a killer band together. Fuck those losers! They probably don't get laid at home either...

What's keeping me from leaving them now is that...it's the beginning of summer and I want to play out. If I leave them now, then it may take me awhile to find a band and I'll miss out on playing gigs this summer. Right now it's just an excuse to play.

However, I know for a fact that next summer I will have one smokin' band that will get all the chicks!

New Band

Jon, I can tell that you LOVE to play out...and that's a good thing...BUT, you could take the time off, find the players you REALLY want to play with, and spend the time writing some material so YOU have some creative control. Life is too short to be unhappy.

I've been playing for28+years, sometimes I've gone 2+ years in between bands..and that's OK...sometimes I get alittle rusty, but it all comes back.
Don't let these guys bring you down, and follow your heart...the Nuge would have never taken crap from anyone!!!

Around 1978-1979, we placed a AD for a Drummer that read " NO NEIL PEART WANNABES "...every drummer at the time was doing that...we wanted a Bonham or a Moon! That drummer has been my best friend for many years now, and we have been in several band through the years...best drummer I've ever heard...and the drummer was a Chick!!...
(go to : http://www.medicinehatband.net/ for her new bands website)

And if your worried about playing out this summer...How many songs do you know?...Place a ad, when you make contact, go through your Song list, and only meet up with the peeople that the the majority of the songs you play. I've had band TIGHT in three weeks, playing out

Just make it happen...NO EXCUSES!

Ken

Yes I do and I think this weekend took the cake!

I know LOTS of cover tunes ranging from blues to classic rock to 80s era hard rock/heavy metal(my main style actually). The problem is is that it seems that everyone wants to throw in new crap that I don't like.

And it pisses me off that with this band they had problems with other guitarists not learning the songs quick enough and just flat out not sounding right. Yet here I not only learned about 60-70 songs in 1 1/2 months, but I learned them note for note(something most guitarists around here will never do) and I shelled out LOTS of cash to get the tone that I knew this band needed. I'd say I have more than gone above and beyond the call of duty for this band and it's like they don't even acknowledge that!

All I gotta say is that my band is about to lose one of the best guitarists they've ever had(not my ego talking, this is coming straight from the drummer).
