Desolder braid or desolder pump

Post by Herec » Tue Feb 12, 2008 4:02 pm

Which one do you find is more effective? I've only had experience with desoldering braid.

The sucker is way faster and almost always gets the job done for me. When it doesn't, I go with the braid to finish it up. The sucker is what I usually grab first....

I don't have much luck with the braid. Maybe for cleaning up a PCB. I'd be lost without the sucker.

I'll have to try one of those vucuum suckers....I tried using one of those cheap desoldering bulbs years ago but it was a joke...the solder wouldn't suck up quick enough or would harden on the bulb's tip....useless. I've used braid ever since without problem.

Depending on the pcb lands or thickness a good sucker is worth two in the braid, unless it is a large component you are desoldering.
That's what i used to do for a living, but no more, won't catch me with a soldering iron, no, no, no..

Most definitely got to have both. Both comes in handy at different times. Chad

I've got a desoldering iron and a bulb sucker.
I use the desoldering iron 99% of the time.
Never tried the braid, have to give that a whirl.

Funny my RS sucker works for me every time. It can get clogged often but its not a huge problem just a slight annoyance but heat the turret, put the sucker on it when I see the solder start flowing, and its empty a second later.

You need both. If you can get the tip of the sucker in there (like a turret) the sucker is perfect. but other places like a tube socket with all that crap in the way sometimes you can only squeeze in there with a some braid.

So......I'm the only shoe maker that uses the "Heat it up and wack it on the table" method of solder removal?? :P 8)
