So guys, I've been listening to A LOT of the brothers Young and company, and I've got to say POWERAGE, in my opinion, has the best guitar tones from their collection with High Voltage a close second.
On Powerage the tones just seem really raw, in your face, big, and clear without any muddyness or overprocessed sounds. "Down payment blues", "Gone Shootin'", and "What's next to the moon" really exemplify the tones that I'm after.
Soo, Since most of us here are AC/DC fans I was curious to what albums you all think have the best tones.

My favourite AC/DC album tones are Australian High Voltage, TNT the album, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt cheap and the BBC Transcriptions Service live album in 1976 which is hard to get ( as in buy the album). I prefer all the early albums because the guitar sounds were very raw ala pure MARSHALL and bon scott's singing was shit hot 2.

Yes all the early albums kick ass, but on Powerage, to my ears, they got everything right.

I also think AC/DC nailed their tone on Love song which has a really sweet overdriven sound like it was played on a super bass or a jtm 100 but i don't really know they have so many marshalls it is confusing speaking to a teckie at marshall a couple of weeks ago he said tht AC/DC have at least 500 Marshalls!! Some collection

I would cut a demo of my bon scott impression but my voice is just braking and it will sound funny i am better waiting to i am 16 before i do anything but i will cut you guys some clips sometime

I'd have to agree with ya, Dirtydeeds. Powerage has the best tones of all the ac/dc catalog, with Highway at a close second. The earlier stuff was real ratty sounding and anything after Flick of the Switch was rather "up to date" for the '80s. Although there's just something about a good vinyl copy of Back in Black played back on good equipment.....mojo.........

I like all the stuff with Bon Scott the best.
My favorite right now has to be High Voltage from the High Voltage album.
Last month it was Highway to Hell CD.
I really like that nasally guitar sound.It fits right in with Bon's voice.


Has anybody seen the Family Jewels double DVD? The first disc is a hoot.

I like Highway to Hell and gasp... Back in Black

Back in Black is an awesome album, but I think that album marked a significant change in their sound. Maybe they had to change for Brian, but they definitely lost that raw sound. Back in Black and albums following became Arena Rock sounding instead of the bare knuckle bar sound. I like them all, but the bon era is my fave.

I talked my mom into buying me Highway To Hell while we were at the grocery store when I was in eigth grade. I was blown away by the guitars on that record. It's the reason I wanted play guitar.

I love 'em all, but Highway remains my all time favorite.

Highway to Hell intro is one of those all time classic intros..A combination of great Marshall tone and three great cords that just fuck'n crankl!!..I think that's one of my favorite things about Angus..Almost all of his songs has a great intro riff or cord change intro..Like Back in Black..Or Shoot to Thrill...The live version of Shoot to Thrill sounds real cool too..Page had that same thing too..The great sounding intros...Black Dog!! The Ocean!! Custard Pie!!...I guess I could go on forever!!

Two words- Mutt Lange

I still love the song "Touch too Much". It brings back fond memories of high school. It had a pretty raw but ballsy sound, too. Really, I like a lot of the old stuff with Bon Scott, though.

Their sound did change with the Back in Black album, though. They lost that rawness and never sounded the same since. IMHO.
