New Ways Train Train Bassline.....

Post by ohmygodtheykilledkenny » Thu Apr 03, 2008 7:23 pm

I've gotten the first phrase of it by ear, but I still need to work out the actual verse riff. I think I just have to sit down with the song and work through it.

I don't know why, but for the last few days, I've been super into working on my bass playing. I've got this wicked Jay Turser Violin Bass that I got at work for like $200, but its great cuz it's really light (hollow), and its short scale, so my stubby guitar fingers work on it no problem.

Anyone else played this bassline? Any guidance to offer?

Thanks Chief! That particular line-up killed, for me anyways. I mean, I loved the Rod Stewart albums, because their fun, and they gave me something fun to listen to, but the sheer musicallity and passion it this album is awesome.

Man this bassline has such a good groove. I thought I had the main line figured out, but when I played along with the recording, my version sounded too "major", so it was way too happy, not slick and fusion-y enough.

I think I'll just keep working on it, try and toss in different notes into the pattern that I'm trying. I'm bound to get it everntually right?

Once I figure this bastard out, what song should I shoot for next?

+1 kenny

That band ROCKED! All of 'em super players. Guess you need Cozy (RIP) to make that groove come alive!

Next song? SITUATION! Great rhythm to blow over!

I saw Bob Tench in a local bar years ago with Steve Marriot. That was a hell of a wild ass show.

Situation.....I think sooooo! As soon as I get home, I'm gonna try and finish New Ways, and see if I can pull it together. Then, I'll move on to Situation.

Indeed RIP Cozy. :( You can hear the chemistry of that line-up on every song. It's the intuition of knowing what your bandmates are gonna do, and how you can compliment it.

On a different note, I just picked up Jeff Becks Guitar Shop, so I'm gonna give that a listen tonight as well.
