Had to get up at three o'clock this AM and drive to an 8:00 meeting all the way across the state, then drive back this afternoon. So I broke out the boxed set of Highway Songs and Cruisin' Classics........
"My little '41 Ford..
She's stroked and bored...
Does ninety-four in the quarter
and she's not even floored....."

Kept me going until about 2:00 this afternoon, when I started dozing off at eighty miles an hour about every sixty seconds.....had to up the ante to Audioslave and Mountain Dew....

Christ I need to go to sleep......

I think he´s reffering to "Freeway Jam" on the live LP with Jan Hammer..

Good choice !

The problem wih "Highway Star" is that it is impossible to listen to it, and keep below the speed limit !

And know what: Both done on a Strat ! So George can stand to listen to them ! :D I though he was all Paul like the rest of you.....

duh...some Beck fan...of course Freeway Jam. I don't like the live version though. I hate Jan Hammer's playing. Probably because of his whining sounding synthpatch and the other becuase of a comment he made..."Guitar players have run out of new material. It's all been done. All the riffs are cliches's now". When asked why he doesn't hold Beck to the same philosphy he says "Jeff INVENTED those cliche's". What a moron. Playing with Beck was his best exposure and Jeff's worst IMO

Highway Star
Burn
Rat Bat Blue
Now I'm Here
Stone Cold Crazy
Won't Get Fooled Again

was our set opener! Missed many a freeway exit listening to the set list!

Blackmore's Strat never sounded like a Strat on the studio cuts. You gotta here the Burn riff on my Paul through my Metro 45...oh wait..you guys DO know what that sounds like :-)))

AND the Strats sound great, too!

My favorite hot rod song is VH’s Hot For Teacher. Mainly the drum solo intro. It always reminds me of going to the drags when we were young kids (like 8-16). We would scout the pits looking for a AA Fuel Funny Car or Top Fuel Dragster that they almost had put back together, then we’d wait in the front row for them to fire it up. They would start it up on Methanol (Alcohol) and then switch tanks to Nitromethane after about 30 seconds. The sound of the idle turned wicked with this crackling, snarling, nasty tone. The exhaust had an a really strong odor and your eyes would start to water and burn. Then they would fire a sharp rev or three that felt like it was ripping your eardrums out. It always left us smiling in awe. Those are the guys that run the 4½ second / 350 mph quarter miles. Not the same today, as they burn way more fuel and it gags you to stand behind them. They’re also afraid to fire those revs and burn up a 100k engine before it makes a run.

Anyways, Alex nails that experience in that solo. He was probably doing the same thing as us. So-Cal was so awesome in those days. 8)
