A little peace is in order here...

Post by fillmore nyc » Sat Aug 01, 2009 12:13 pm

Im just throwing this out there for anyone concerned enough to read it. I've been seeing a LOT of negativity, personal bashing, flame wars etc in various threads.
Im gonna say it right up front (just so that no one does it for me, but I deserve it if they did) that I've been equally guilty of the very same in the past.
For me, thats come to an end right as of right now. Because of some of the eye opening responses I've gotten from MY rants, I've taken a hard look at some of the things I've written, and made a conscious decision to not be a generator of, or a participant in these pointless flame wars. We're here because of George and crew, and could just as easily be closed down by the same, either individually, or entirely.

I hope that Im not the only one to think that maybe its time to stop ripping someone a new one because they dont like the artist we like, they dont play the same axe or amp we do, etc, etc, etc. I mean, we're all here with a common interest, right?? We all need help with shit from time to time, right?? To me, thats why I joined this forum for in the first place... to get help, and to GIVE help when I could. If someone says something inflammatory, it doesnt necessarily mean it deserves a response, and if I had made that statement a year ago, I would include some of the shit I've said to others... it didnt deserve a response... maybe I was having a bad day, I dunno, but thats certainly no excuse to rip on somebody, especially when they either disagreed with my opinion, or they were just proud of their new G.A.S. score.

Im not saying that everyone is gonna agree with everything posted on the forum, but for SURE there is a way to write that disagreement, and have it be positive, not an attempt to beat the "rightness" of our own personal postion into the other persons head.

Im stating right here that Im not gonna involve myself with negativity on this forum anymore. It wont COME from me, and I certainly wont respond to it. I've met a few guys here, and I consider them real friends. On some level, I'd like to consider everyone here a friend, and Im extending an apology to anyone I've offended with comments in the past. Again, what I've seen lately has caused me to evaluate my position on posting here, and on my end, things have changed, hopefully for the better. Ill help anyone out that Im capable of helping, and I'd like to believe that sentiment might be returned.

I hope there are some guys here that feel the same and might join me in trying to turn around the bashing, negativity, flaming, etc.

Im VERY confident in saying that no good will come of continuing it.

Here here, a toast to peace and tranquility on the forum. I too have had my moments, in retrospect, I'm not proud of. So I send out the same apology.

Without going into detail, I have a personal friend considering leaving this forum, due to this type of BS. I really don't want to see him go. He's the reason I'm here. :(

Hell, I'm in on that too Fill, word up. (Y'know I'm really pleasantly surprised in a strange way that it was you that came up with this, very unexpected).
I've been somewhat guilty very, very recently of chiming in when I see other people getting ripped, and it just elevates.
From now on I'm just gonna sit back and speak to the mods. No good in getting mahself worked up now is there!
Now, I've no problem with people picking on me, I'm small enough and ugly enough (and mouthy enuff) to handle any of it, but when I see other people getting picked on without valid reason, through either misunderstanding, or plain inability to get past themselves and see how they're coming across, I get very saddened by it, and find it difficult not to get wound up. Especially when people are suffering health problems too!
Personally I can live without any of it, and would be really sad to lose any of you guys on here that have something valid, useful, funny, knowledgeable, or even totally random to say.
Hell, I know I needs you lot more than you needs me, but I hope I've provided a little help to at least somebody on here without aggravation.

Peace 8)

You know, its cool that you mentioned this. The original post I typed had a sentiment very similar to this in it, but I thought the post was getting too long, and that I should trim it down a bit.
My thought was that there is a strange thing that happens with the anonymity of being behind a keyboard... Its like our empathy for others feelings sometimes seems to go out the window. I mean most of us here would probably LIKE the dude we're bashing if they were our neighbors, or if we just ran into them somewhere!! Not having a face to attach to a post does strange things for some reason... it gives us cyber muscles!! We think nothing of beating the shit out of someone with our fingers, as if there isnt a person with feelings on the other end thats going "WTF??!! Just cause I dont like Joe Blows playing, now IM a douche-bag??? ILL SHOW HIM WHO'S A DOUCHE BAG!!!" And then the war starts.

Anyway, thanks so much to everyone that responded at this point... its cool that a lot of guys here seem to be of like mind with this, but I had a suspicion that some of us might be thinking the same thing. I mean, Im never gonna stop joking around, or posting my opinion if it conflicts with someone elses, but as previously stated, I aint gonna flame anyone, and as you said, Demonufo, if I see it going on, Im not gonna get involved. It isnt my business, and it certainly isnt my right on this forum to perpetuate it.

and + one on that.
I've been the driver of that bus once or twice, and been ran over by all four tires, as well, as I guess many have. Translation through the keyboard is not always an easy thing, as stated previously. But things are different, as a result I rarely visit.

I am pleasantly surprised to see this sensible and lucid post Fillmore. I for one had my eyebrows raised several times here already, but I have enough experience to know it always blows over, and most of the time harmony will prevail. Nice to see sevaral folks chime in here,,,just waiting on a few others. We all have opinions.
