A little help if you please...(Eisenhower content)
I'm writing a paper for my 20th century history course, and I've run into a roadblock.
I'm done most of the paper, the purpose of which is to analyze an Eisenhower speech from 1963, but I'm having a lot of difficulty figuring out where and to whom the speech was delivered, which is naturally one of the objectives.
The speech is dated April 16th, 1963 and talks about the need to place restrictions on the use of atomic energy, and limiting the amount of money spent on military forces in all nations. The intro to the speech talks about Staline's death bringing the end of an era etc. It's cold war era, and it was during the JFK administration.
All I've been able to dig up is that he had an appointement that day:
"AP-1 Appointments--Hermann, A. B., Heritage Record, April 16, 1963 [Republican
recording with statements by DDE, Nixon, Rockefeller, and Goldwater and narrated
by Ronald Reagan]"
So I'm assuming it was for a sort of collection of speeches released by the Republicans at the time.
If no one has any information, I'm going to cite this archive page and hope for the best, but if anyone has information on this speech, or a resource that I could use to figure out its origin, I would be greatly indebted.
I would post the entire speech, but the only copy I have is in french. (Decided to take my post secondary education in a seond language *smacks forehed*)

Re: A little help if you please...(Eisenhower content)
Some of the content of which you quote sounds like his farwell address speech of his last term where he warns American not to let the Industrial Military Complex coop the country's resources and monetary reserves and nation building. Amazing that one of America's greatest Generals butting heads with the military about funding and resources.
The speech of which you refer to must have after his tenure so my reference won't help sorry.
His Farwell address is eyeopening if you haven't listened to it.
Googe it and watch it! It'll give you chills.

Yeah, I listened to it when I first started researching this paper, it really was chilling. No one does speeches like that anymore.
I'm just gonna work with what I've got, it's 2 am here, coffee's run out, and I still have writing to do. Then I have to attempt to correct my awful french grammar and syntax.
Thanks for posting man, I honestly wasn't expecting much, and it's nice that you took the time to post something relevant.
Honestly, everytime I write a paper, I promise myself that I won't leave it till the last minute, and without fail, I'm up at 2-3 am the night before it's due trying to scrape something together. Stupid gear whoring is a full time obsession

History/Ancient History and Philosophy were some my favorite subjects in college. I know all kinds of irrelevant and anecdotal facts about Nebuchadnezzar to Kierkegaard!
Sorry I couldn't help pinpoint the speech location. My guess would be some sort of conservative think tank fundraiser. Eisenhower promulgated isolationism for the United States during and after his presidency.
Good luck with the paper! I always did my best writing under the gun, you don't over think things then...

Yeah, as far as ideas go I definately agree, some of my best thoughts and points come out when answering essay questions on exams. Only problem is that I am an anglophone by birth, so expressing these ideas in french is sometimes difficult under the gun because unlike in english, I'm forced to think about how to form the idea into a useable sentence.

Re: A little help if you please...(Eisenhower content)
two forms of "isolationism"----
political and economic.
over the decades americans have been propagandized
into believing ANYTHING remotely isolationist is ridiculous and "evil". our "establishment" preaches we (USA) must be "involved" in everything going on in the world.
well, we are POLITICALLY involved and we are and have been paying a obscene price to do so. The U.S. has been wrecked by our FedGov's policy of interventionism!
EVERYTHING our FedGov does today is polar opposite of the principles on which we built our country. a heavy, graduated income tax, a "managed" economy, unchecked deficit spending.....just to name a couple detrimental "policies".
eisenhower always spoke the so called "conservative" tongue....but that means absolutely nothing! actions are what really matters and eisenhower did NOTHING to combat the growing power of the state. in fact he assisted it....which is why
he was selected to run. like a pied piper, he led the country away from sound economic and political principles. just another politician.

Re: A little help if you please...(Eisenhower content)
kinda true lifer , but the speech took place after his presidency .....maybe he was then more free to express his own feelings about this ? while in exercise presidents are hung by the balls ... so many powerfull guys involved in the running of a country not to drive angry
.... the speech feels a little bit too much spot on not to have at least a part of sincerity ... a speech like this one is very rare in history even if it's not followed by action to back it up ... while your career ends up , your conscience must tells you some little things i guess .
We'll see his true mind in 2044 when the documents he left about ww2 in the american cemetary in normandy when be released ...

Ah politicians....
I dunno, the speech I studied was delivered 2 years after the end of his second term, even though it was recorded as some kind of propogandic package (as I said, narrated by Reagan back in 63'), it's definately possible that what Ike was saying was completely sincere, since at this point, he really would've had no motivation to be a puppet.
It's politics though right, it's all the same. I went to vote for my first time last fall, and the scary thing was that at 18, I was jaded and slanted into believing that you can't trust any party. From what I've seen, the entire campaign is always about how to improve the economy, standard of living and lower taxes, and once the party is in office....nothing happens.
Not to turn this into a political discussion, since it's not really one anyways (partially because I'm not smart enough, partially cuz we ain't allowed to), but why can't there be more Bill Clintons, who actually change things?
Anyways, I best go study for my exam, American History pre 1877, cool course.
Night gents,
Travis

Re: A little help if you please...(Eisenhower content)
well, you ARE right. the two parties are,in fact, "the same". the "small" rhetoric
and their favorite special interests are about the only differences.
that's why people end up simply "tuning out". essentially, they are accepting "defeat"!! BS! it's time to voice up if you 're a patriot! understand the proper role of government (understand our Constitution) and you will begin to understand how and why the playing field is not level. it's by design.
don't make the mistake of blaming individual prez's and their parties. that's all just meant to side track all of us and prevent us from asking the "embarassing" type of questions!
to my young friend.....it was under the very administration you admire that the seeds were sown for our current economic debacle.(as well as bush's) mr. greenspan inflated the currency BIGTIME. which resulted in the TEMPORARY, euphoric "good times" of the ninety's. but it can never last. the recessions and depressions will ALWAYS follow. there can be no other end result. the recession "period" is natural market forces merely re-adjusting and eliminating the
wasteful production and mal-investments of questionable business ventures.
businessmen will take bigger risks when the "easy money" is practically handed out! these poor investments are the first to go under.
the best thing to do? LET IT BOTTOM OUT! let it recover WITHOUT government
"assistance"....which is what got us here in the first place!!

Re: A little help if you please...(Eisenhower content)
Lifer, you definately seem like the kinda guy that I could learn a lot from. I've never really studied the U.S. economy, and what you brought up in that last post really made me think.
Sortof on the same topic, I was sitting around on a break at work the other day, talking to an older guy I work with (around 40 I believe), and we got to talking about the music biz these days, which has really lost a lot of balls and originality. I'm talking the mainstream/major label stuff, not the stuff put out independantly. He tied this in directly to the fact that youth has stopped questioning authority. He's been a punk all his life, and done some truly crazy shit, stuff that I could never imagine doing, but I can see what he means.
Obviously not all youth have stopped, cuz you still get "true" hippy kids protesting occasionaly up here, and the occasional banding together of students to lower tuition (most students I know work at least part time, and are paying their own way through school) etc. but by and large, my generation is just blindly led from one fad to another, and will listen to whatever crap the "it" band for the moment is putting out.
They have the same attitude towards politics. They bitch about everything that their government is doing, yet they go along with it. Most of them (who legally could), didn't even vote in our last election. I forget what it was, but last year, a student group tried to organize a protest at the Legislative buildings in my city, to help protest a proposition to raise our tuition. They had trouble filling one school bus. These were college age kids, the very people that are supposed to be defying "the man".

Re: A little help if you please...(Eisenhower content)
Travis,
yep, i hear ya. what you are seeing is typical. "youth" has the energy....but truly lacks experience and genuine wisdom one accumulates (hopefully) by living life. this is why the early adulthood years are "dangerous", so to speak. young minds are easily manipulated. they don't have much to "compare" to because of that lack of life experience. they make exellent recruits for the leftists.
'economics' is the same everywhere, the world over. 'economics' is simply the study of human 'action'.....that's it,when you boil it down. i find it very interesting. i also find it very disappointing because of the various 'methods' employed by EVERY existing government to 'disrupt' their citizens activities concerning the market economy. ****when you understand truthful, genuine economic principles and how it protects the property rights of ALL....you will never look at the world again in the same way. dramatic? exaggerating? nope.
this is what is lacking in america AND all the rest of the globe....basic understanding of the market economy! why are we all taxed to death, lose our overall wealth by the mechanism of inflation and lose real 'purchasing power' every year? because our masses are ignorant of their own rights. there is NOTHING in the way to stop men in power from plundering their neighbor!!! people accumulate wealth by two different methods. one is honest, peaceful cooperation in production. the other is the easy path which is smooth, wide and flat.....taking property by FORCE. by hitting your neighbor with a club, like in our early history or by today's "civilized" manner.....by legislation! ****backed up by the power, or rather violence, of the state. try not paying your taxes.
well anyway....our modern liberal/marxists today tell us there are no real "truths". that "truth" is "relative" to the time we live in. meaning it changes.
This is simply absurb. any thinking man should be able to determine, using his own observations, that are are, indeed, unchanging truths. jealousy, power, money, lust, etc., has ALWAYS been powerful motivation for the evil doer! ALL of history is practically overflowing w/ such stories! man has not been 'perfected' and he never will be.
my point with all that(sorry) is that there IS hard truths out there and human action/economics is one of them! man does not change. Governments today pull the same shit as governments did in antiquity. today is no different. the "public faces", office holders (most of them) and the government bank rolled, "experts" the state trots out everyday to "calm the natives" are merely payed propagandists acting on behalf of the state and its FAVORED position.
i'm sorry but this is ALSO the truth! lies and half-truths.

10-4 NYC!!!
i've been pleasantly surprised lately how many people are starting to resist. matter of fact, last month i visited old friends in the albany ny area. i was shocked, for real, how many pissed off people are really around. thing is, my entire visit i initiated no "political" discussions.....those guys brought it all up themselves.
education is the key. nothing will change/convert government without a mass, popular movement. we must educate others of their property rights and teach them what responsible government REALLY is about.
no government ever created by man can withstand a popular movement.
