Put my Major on TV

Post by worldoftone » Sat Mar 13, 2010 2:19 pm

Well, since I worked on getting all the noise out of her and got her cleaned up I figured she would be tossed back onto the 4x12s and left alone for a while. Well, when using my two 1950s Bassmans didn't want to seem to work out, I yanked her along at the last second. She's going through a '62 Fender 2 x 12 loaded w/Scumback H55 100-watt speakers and A/Bed with a '59 RI Bassman. Quite a juxtaposition there.

I'll post a video up soon whenever we get a copy. A lot of people don't know that at especially LOWER volumes the Major is just plain FAT and THICK. It sounded real good.

Holy S@$^%*&^(*&!!!! I can't believe that cab can hold all that moving air!
I'm nervous with my V4B pushing a 15" D130 in my blonde bassman cab.

Those 100 watt Scummies are cool aren't they! I got a 4X12 with four of the
H55 100 watters myself and they are way cool with my Sound City 100 and Jazz
Bass, so I can imagine that Major..... woah.

What kinda power tubes you got in that monster??
Cool rig dude 8)

Well, I definitely can't crank it up like when using Two 4 x 12 cabs or my 2 x 15 cab  There gets to be a point where the cab sounds like it is coming apart. Underneath the head in the pic is a t-shirt to keep that old rock-hard Fender plastic handle from vibrating and making noise. That was the biggest issue I had. Major has four JJ KT-88s in it. I have it biased very conservatively. I also have one of George's new cabs which will soon house four 100-watt Scumbacks. That should be PROPER! Then I can use this Major for some more serious gigging. 8)

I'm liking my JJ KT88's in my '67 style Superbass clone.
The Trampster tipped me off to 'em. I would like to eventually
go NOS something (6550's, GEC KT88's????). But right now I'm
diggin' the glassy non-EL34 thing. And the price is cool.

It would be sweet to get a tall bottom 4X12 for your Scumbacks,
get some more bottom end, might be so big it would be illegal

Let us know how it works when you get the cab, I think you'll flip!

I'll post a full update when I get everything sorted! 6550s are getting tough to find in quads, GECs you will pay big, big bucks for. That's if you can even find a matched quad anymore . . . used or new.

great looking pic and a tasty rig nah you don't want a tall 4x12 you want a 4x15 to go with the 4x12 i have that with a 100 watt marshall superbass and it's amazing tone, I would love to get a major head and gig with it for bass. WOT how does it sound for bass?

It's OK . . . kinda flat in response but it sure pushes a lot of air. I like Super Basses better, but the Major is a lot of fun!
