Amp Advice Please

Hi, I thought I would post this in a hope for some "sound" advice!

I am currently looking at replacing my Marshall. I currently have a JCM900 Model 4100 modified with EL34's. I have been told many times that these are one of the worst Marshalls built! Apart from that I am growing less and less satisified with the sound from this amp. I have a Les Paul with Alnico II's and genuine blackbeauty caps. Oh and like probably a lot of poeple I love the Slash sound from Appetite.

I am looking at buying a genuine Jubilee, 2555Sl jubilee, or possibly the new AFD100, but I am doubting this AFD100 as I dont think it will be built as well as the others, and I doubt the sound will be that accurate. I have read all about the #36 & #39 mods, but I am not prepared to buy an old JMP with no effects loop, as I do also bypass my preamp from time to time to play some heavier stuff.

What are your takes on the jubes vs the AFD?

Well, since he never used the jubilee's in the early days, I'd go with the AFD100. It actually sounds quite sweet.
(I never thought I'd be recommending anybody to buy a new marshall! )
You could always buy an old JMP, do the mods, and fit the Metro Zero Loss Loop Kit, which has to sound better than those crappy loops that Marshall use (although I admit I know nothing about the loop on the AFD100)

Interesting, so you have heard the AFD100 in the flesh? I have only heard it online and dont think it sounds much like the AFD album tone. I have been talking to an amp builder who also recommended building a metro kit and doing the #36 mod on it. I am somewhat excited about this idea, but I haven't heard a metro kit in the flesh and as I am from Australia I dont think I will be able to find one to play it. Sound clips from youtube leave me undecided, the only one I really love completely is the 45/100 that George did a comparison with his original 66 with. Both those amps are totally awesome!

Anyone done a SIR #36 or #39 mod and have a sound sample I can listen to?

Only 80 pages to read through.
http://forum.metroamp.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=29759" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Eventually you'll get the idea of what you need to do to achieve this, if you have enough knowledge (easily learnt) and read carefully. But nobody's giving away the exact spec.

As for the AFD100, it may not be all the way authentic, but it's reasonably close sounding, and seems to be a pretty versatile amp though, for the money.

However, closer can be built, if that's what you really require.
