Being new here, I wonder, what are your guys' favorite guitar stores? I see a lot mentioned about GC (i bought my acoustic there some years ago, great deal on a used...) Personally, i'm preferential to Elderly in Lansing, they always seem to have great used gear.

McCabe's on Pico in West Los Angleles.
Pier Music on Pier Ave, Hermosa Beach (gone now).
Sticks 'N' Strings, East Broadway, Tucson
Sam Ash, Colonial Blvd, Orlando. (I deal with ONE of the salesmen there.)
eBay.

I've never bought anything of consequence from Guitar Center. Too many friends of mine had stories about bait-and-switches, overcharging, etc. I go there sometimes if there's some new wonder-gear thing I want to check out, but I don't buy anything from them.

My favorite store closed a few months ago. BNF Vintage Guitars here in Des Moines. I never actually bought a guitar there, but it was vintage amp heaven. I bought my '75 Marshall, '66 Bassman, '67 Bandmaster, and my Music Man cab there. I hadn't even scratched the surface -- he had tweed Fenders, old Gibsons, funky Kustoms, all sorts of stuff that I wanted. I musta blown two grand in there in a couple of months time.
My wife and I drove by once and there was a "sale" sign in the window; the owner (Steve Rogers) had packed it all up by the time I went back.

I really miss that place. No one else around here has the old stuff I wanna see.

I like GC especially since i work there now and i know how to grind down their prices big time! I bought my Les Paul from Guitar Resurrection www.guitarrez.com and they gave me the best looking top on my Les Paul that i've ever seen!

Check it out...

The people over there are great in Texas and have the best prices i've seen.

Good ol Guitar Resurrection. Best guitar shop in Austin Texas. They always have the best quality LP's, PRS', Fenders, and upper end basses. Not really my cup of tea for guitars(Im more of a BCR, MCS fan myself). Their stock of upper end amps is really cool as well. They do not carry Marshall's though and look at them as a "lower" musicians piece of gear

I went to G.C. in Roseville about three months ago, and asked a sales guy about a 59' LP RI hanging up on the wall. He shrugged and walked down to some Asian made guitar w/active pu's that he liked, and proceeded to plug into a 20 knob Crate and wailed for about 10 minutes.
When I'm ready to buy, I'll have to talk to Shane.

It's a shame some salesd00d's always want to shrug away from high-end guitars to people they don't think deserve it. If someone asks to play that '59, i always bring it down because that thing is truly the King Of The Hill of all the guitars in the store. Truly Badass!
