Got XP running! the mouse is slow...

Coming from W2K I'm noticing some differences. Mostly for the better.

I usually crank the mouse speed all the way up. Even maxed in XP, it's no where near as afst as W2K. Should I get a 3rd party driver?

I swear I'm going to create a computer support catagory on this forum.

Yes get a third party mouse driver. If its a no name brand, you can flip the mouse over (usually) and there should be an FCC id number, write that down and then go here http://www.fcc.gov/oet/fccid/help.html there are some instructions to help you out a bit but there are several search boxes towards the bottom of the page that when you enter your fcc id code and hit search what should be brought up is the manufacturer of your mouse. You can then go google that company up to get yourself your proper mouse driver for your mouse.

Well then, just go to HP and download the driver for your model George.

George, you may find this site useful:

http://www.musicxp.net/

paticularly this page:

http://www.musicxp.net/tuning_tips.php

You don't have to do everything on the list but it will help you optimize XP for music applications and generally speed things up. Whenever I do an install, the first thing I do is turn all the XP graphics off and revert to classic mode and turn off all visual effects. That's usually enough but there are other tweaks you can try if you need to.
