Gary is an idiot. There is way more to this than the public has been told. A big thing on the table is owners want a piece of the players endorsements. Bettman knows this may start a chain reaction in other sports as well. Think he's being pressured not to cave in by the NHLPA? Think the owners are not whispering in his ear?

Crosby did a radio interview here last week. He said "the entire season doesn't look good at the moment".

Unfortunately, I agree. And even if it doesn't get a complete kabosh, I'm starting to agree that the fans should boycot several games to send a message and hit them in the wallet.

I despise Bettman too but realize the owners would have everything the need to fire him (3 lockouts under his reign) if he wasn't doing their bidding. They haven't even hinted at being unhappy with his results, that I'm aware of. Which just scares me and turns me away from the league. I just don't believe you can run the NHL like the top 3 North American leagues. Trying to do so will only drive away long standing, intense fans.

Then again: lockouts, salary cap, big TV deals......I'm probably wrong. All you have to do is bastardize the sport and it can fit the big3 mold.
