Question for you mechanics out there

How the hell are you supposed to get to the outlet to replace a thermostat on a 93 Acheiva? ANy mechanics out there tht can give me a hand with your experience?

I'm not familiar with which engine the Achieva came with -- are you sure you have to dig down into the engine at all? My beater '92 Sunbird has a thermostat that just drops in place -- all you gotta do is remove the upper radiator hose.........since there were only a couple of different four-bangers in the GM lineup at that time if you have a four yours may be the same......if you have a V6,

Chilton's, Hayes, etc. Do like me and just go to the auto parts store and "browse" through the appropriate manual! Library too.

This Acieva is a V6 3.3. It didnt look like it would be there were the hose comes in but Ill check. Ill check it out further but the outlet is dug in so far back and I have no real tools to get to it. My friend who usually comes to help me works on the cars is in jail

Dan, pray your waterneck is not buried under the intake manifold. My Mitsubishi is like that. Mitsu also saw fit to ensure that you needed to pretty much do a top end teardown just to get at the stupid $20/pc. plugs.

Lots of 'em are that way anymore. Had to put a head gasket on my Sunbird this fall, and we decided that since the only way to get to the water pump and starter was to tear the cylinder head off anyway, we better replace them too, along with half the hoses and the timing belt. Dumped $500 in there just so I wouldn't have to tear it apart that far again, and now it runs so nice I can't justify unloading it this spring, even though it's rusting out from under me.

Oh well, I can still get the nice stuff out of the garage when it's nice out so I don't look like total white trash.

I think thats about where Im at when I look at it. With the right wratchet set I could probably work my way into the motor and get it off but how the hell Id ever get it back on I dont even want to think about. I was told by a friends dad today who is a bit of a mechanic that the problem may not be the thermostat. The heat in that car isnt working and tha fan isnt blowing though it blows for everything else.
