My buddy's throwing a bash this Saturday in his brothers back yard, a stones throw from my house, and I'm gonna miss it!

He's got a couple of bands playing, three kegs, and it's also gonna be a "jam night".
His old guitarist from the 80's is flying in from L.A. for the event.
His name is Jimmy Wigle, and he works in R&D at Groove tubes. (sorry Jon)
Shane, I'll PM ya for the details if you're not doing anything Sat.

Dang it, I'm playing in Bay City (1 1/2 hours north) this weekend.

We are talking about working our way in to Detroit after this festival season gets over. I've played enough beer tents for one summer already.

What are the happenin clubs to play down your way?

George, I figured you were playing this weekend.
I'll be driving right by you, going to my parents place in Houghton Lake.

As far as happening places to play around here, I'll have to get back with you, I'm splittin' in about 5 minutes.

What kind of place you looking for?
Sports bar atmosphere?

Later,
Fritz

Emerald Theatre! Ha ha ha. They have cover and original bands play there. It's in Mt. Clemens. Truly a badass place to play.

Yeah, I played the Emerald a couple times. Not a great crowd, but the place rocks.

Yes the crowd is usually filled with tough chopper riders and a lot of kids that just wanna hear METAL! That's what is kind of dumb about D-Town right now, because it's a really heavy scene.

Hey Shane, you're more than welcome to come sit in for me. (referring to your signature line).

I can always use a shot break. Can you make it the middle of the second set? Thanks.

Woa there i'm not jumpin' the fence so soon. This Saturday i'm gonna audition with some d00d's in Detroit for their band. Supposedly these d00d are influenced by Zeppelin and Hendrix, which is right up my alley. Wish me luck man.

No really, I NEED you to come sit in. :)

Please rescue me from another rousing chorus of Jessie's Girl. All this tone is wasted on 80's pop.

We did just pick up Carry On My Wayward Son, which is a little saving grace. But it pales in comparison to the agony of Sister Christian.

Please Shane, I'm desperate here. Take over.........

Okay, "Sister Christian" and "Jessie's Girl" may make you feel like you checked your nuts at the door, but some of these other gems off your song list can't be far behind:
"Love Shack"??????? The B-52's and Marshalls should never be uttered in the same sentence.
"1999"???? "Billie Jean"???? (I could forgive "Beat It" for the EVH solo, though.) I hope these tunes make the girlies melt on the dance floor and drop trousers so you stay awake!!
Still, some interesting choices in there. "Werewolves of London"? Cool, never seen a band pick that one up. "Banditos"? I didn't think anyone remembered who the Refreshments were, I caught them here in Iowa with Semisonic opening (before Semisonic got semi-big and checked THEIR nuts in at the door....) My last band played that one. "Possum Kingdom" too, loved the tune, but what a joy to do the middle section with a stock Strat tremolo -- hit the low E, drop it like a rock while you clamp the other five strings with your hand, bring it back and try to yank the other strings in tune while not interrupting the low E's feedback. Needless to say it was the last song of a given set, when you didn't have to be completely in tune.
Quitcher whinin' -- you could be at home on a Saturday night with a baby bottle in your hand instead of a guitar.........

But sweet child of mine is well... pretty sweet, and so is All Right now, and so is George's version of Play that Funky music, but its no Jessie's Girl x2 :)

As far as the Refreshments go, i'm suprised you saw them in concert, i don't know many people who have, I don't think they toured all that long. (I really liked that band) They came out with a good follow up disc, but Geffin records (i think it was that label) screwed them over with the second release, they broke up, and I think the singer of that band is making some noise with a new group.

BTW George, your tone was sick lastnight :!: And I loved the increased volume to cover for the blown up bass.

I never have heard the Refreshments' second disc, but their first is still in my wife's car for quick listening. I really liked them too, I could sit and actually play the whole disc without skipping around like I do on most CD's. And their guitarist may have only had two licks, but they fit every song and his tone was killer. Sad that they will be best known as the band that played the "King of the Hill" theme.
When I caught them here in Iowa the guitarist (was his name Brian Blush?) was playing a Matchless Clubman 35 that sounded great, and some gorgeous flametop LP's (spent that advance well I guess.) The singer (Roger?) was playing Tele's into a Fender Prosonic. Semisonic's singer/guitarist had a Strat into a Twin Reverb reissue and a BluesBreaker reissue; I couldn't believe he didn't have a Rocktron HUSH unit, he was so noisy from hum it was killing their sound every time he didn't strum the guitar!!
And thanks for bringing Rick Springfield up, George. I caught myself singing "Jessie's Girl" to the baby, he'll be warped for life now. Maybe I'll have to drive up there and crash your shows yelling for Culture Club covers to remind you how good you got it with sappy Night Ranger ballads.
