Dream Band Line Up.
SRV, David Girabaldi, Victor Wooten, and EVH
With Special Guest James Brown. Tower of Power Horn Section.
I'm not saying anyone's better than anyone, but I think these
guys could have wrote some great feel music had they ever colaborated.

It depends on what kind of dream band you want to create. For a prog/ metal thingy, it'd be Yngwie on guitar, Peart on drums, Steve Harris on bass and Geoff Tate singing. A second guitarist could be Schenker, Gary Moore or Ritchie. Runners up on drums would be Ian Paice (he wasn't lead-footed like Bonzo). Rob Halford in his prime or Ronnie James Dio would be another candidate for vox. This band of course would be fist-fighting 10 minutes in. If you were leaning toward an R&B thing, then of course I'd want Wicked Wilson Pickett singing, along with James Brown's original horn section, Booker T on keys, and Curtis Mayfield on guitar (he INVENTED R&B guitar playing).

Best case senario, their styles would have rubed off on each other, and the thing these guys all have in common is that they are all great feel players. SRV had great old school funk chops and tone (Telephone Song), not just Blues. For a Rock player EVH has some funky vibes to some of his licks. If they didn't kill each other, I think they could have created music similiar to Steve Smith's Vital information, but with more of a raw bluesy sound. I think it would have interesting to hear. I got the idea experimenting with Pride and Joy tone for the leads and fill notes in "What is Hip", Using the volume knob on the guitar to adjust back into clean when nessecary.I almost said Lifeson instead of EVH.

In the late 80's, a drummer I played with had a CD of them. It actually belonged to his dad, a giging drummer in a top 40/Funk banddynaman wrote:How the hell does a guitarist know about Vital Info? I figured only drum nerds would know about them!
His dad had him playing Squib cakes, Blood sweat and tears, and Zepplin.
by the age of 17 when we used to jam together.
Being exposed to that kinda turned me into a drum nerd, and I think it helped me to be more aware, and better use the percussive qualities in guitar playing. Which in turn helps the drummer because your practicly keeping the beat with your guitar playing. SRV had the percussive thing down in his rythym playing, and I think it's part of why he sounded so full in 3 piece.
I don't even play drums, but have bought drum instructional tapes in the past.

For strait prog, I'd have to include Steve Hackett from Genesis (early member), Phil Collins (yes, he played drums once, and quite well) and Chris Squire on bass. As for singing this stuff, you wouldn't want some operatic warbler, but rather someone who just has a good musical sense and decent range like Steve Perry.

I'd be curious to see what happend if Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Keith Moon, and John Paul Jones (or if John Entwistle left The Who) from the Beck's Bolero lineup actually formed into Led Zeppelin with maybe Steve Marriott on vocals (Jimmy Page's original choice for vocals).
It would also be curious to see what had happend if Jeff Beck was able to hook up w/Carmine Appice and Tim Bogert from Vanilla Fudge prior to his car accident and before the second Jeff Beck Group lineup. Not sure who would be on vocals, I think he still wanted Rod Stewart?
Was reading that the original Jeff Beck Group was supposed to play Woodstock, but with their personal differences broke the group up about three weeks before it.

For my Dream Lineups, it'd be interesting to see who/how lead/rythm duties would be handled by the following guys.
Ted Nugent/Pat Travers/Ronnie Montrose
Robin Trower/Jimi Hendrix/SRV/Frank Marino
George Lynch/Randy Rhoads/EVH
Frank Zappa/Jeff Beck
Alvin Lee/Eric Clapton (Cream era)
Jimmy Page/Alex Lifeson (early Rush)
Peter Green/Paul Kossoff
Leslie West/Johnny Winter

Lead duties IMHO (or more like wishful thinking, lol)........For my Dream Lineups, it'd be interesting to see who/how lead/rythm duties would be handled by the following guys.
Ted Nugent/Pat Travers/Ronnie Montrose = Ted
Robin Trower/Jimi Hendrix/SRV/Frank Marino = Frank
George Lynch/Randy Rhoads/EVH = no frickin' idea, but DAMN!!!!
Frank Zappa/Jeff Beck = Jeff (Frank would be happy writing)
Alvin Lee/Eric Clapton (Cream era) = Eric!!!
Jimmy Page/Alex Lifeson (early Rush) = Jimmy (see the GP artilce where Alex talks about meeting JP)
Peter Green/Paul Kossoff = not a clue
Leslie West/Johnny Winter = Lay it down Johnny!!!!
Let's get going, 'cause there's too much music, too little time!!!!
