tweaking my HP deskjet???

I use a HP Deskjet printer for my shipping lables. And I'm going through a black ink cartridge every 3-4 weeks. There's an option in the print box to lower the ink volume, but it resets every time I print a page. I just wondered if there was a way to set this permanently?

Or if there are any tweaking programs for HP's out there?

It sucks buying all of these ink refills.

i hear ya how it resets the next time when you set it after you click print. i think if you go control panels/printers and set it there the settings will remain until you go back there to reset them again in the future.

There's any number of laser printers out there at $300 or less right now for monochrome, laser toner will get you a lot farther than an inkjet for the money.

Damnit! I was gonna share my computer knowledge in exchange for a free 12 series Plexi, but then I remembered I have no knowledge. DOH!

I would seriously go with the laser printer though.

I've been leaning towards a laser but I wasn't sure about toner and cost. And isn't it messy to change?
Can I get toner at Staples when I run out at 4PM on Friday?

Nah, you shouldn't have any trouble finding the toner, make sure to build a stockpile just in case. You don't want some tone crazy madman not gettin' his amp on time, we all know the disasters that could cause. It's not a messy thing either. Hey George, I'd like to take a trip down to the shop some time to drool..I mean check it out if it's all right with you, I'm in the Midland area so it's not far at all. I've already got an "overtime pay only" Metroamp 12 series piggybank started, I've been working a shitload of overtime, so I hope to have the amp and cab by next Christmas.

If you go laser, which is the best as far as cost are concerned, go with HP. I use 2 different ones an older 1200 series and a newer 2420. The 1200 would last 3 or 4 thousand pages per toner units at a cost of around $70. The toner comes in a self contained unit and includes a new drum so there is noting to wear out. And installing a new unit is very simple, no mess at all. My 2420 is a network type printer--30,000 pages per month duty cycle and prints around 30 pages per minute and the toner unit is around $90 and lasts for around, hell I don't even know it still has the original in it and I have had it for over 6 months now. Everyone carries the toner cartriges even Wal-Mart, I would check out the smaller HP units as they seem to hold up better then the other brands I have tried.

George, I have a Brother laser printer that I'll offer you. The toner cartridges cost $72 and will print up about 6000 single spaced sheets of paper per cart. Let me know if you are interested.

Nah its cool. If you need another one let me know, its just sittting out in the garage collecting dust. It works good, Im just to stingy to part with that amount of coin for printing as I don't do that much.

$200 for a new laser printer, how can you beat that?

I've got a Samsung laser that I paid $150 for three years ago. I've changed the cartridge once.
Next printer purchase will be a color laser, there are models at around $400 now. Color inkjet printing is the only thing worse than B&W inkjet printing!!!
