He had a SG with Strat pick-ups. I saw it in Guitar Player a 100 years ago.

its funny all these songs remind of late 80's when i got my first sequencer ( KORG M1). down to the Eb genisis song - all the black keys sound good i love frank - but the sounds and songs are kind of cheeesy... i know i know.. but hey.. hes a monster player! and his brother wails as well! FRANK I LOVE YOU MAAAAN

I saw him once in Long Beach California about a million years ago. I think I was about 15 years old.

When he came out with the strobe lights flashing on triangular shaped rotating mirrors and dry ice smoke all over the stage lit up with purple lights I was floored. Then I heard that tone, which I now know is solid state tone!!! I believe there was some square pieces of paper involved that night......

He had 2 Echoplex's (I think) right there in front of him on the floor.

He played for like 90 minutes straight. Not more than 3 seconds between each song. Came back out and did 2 encores and that was it.

I have never been the same.

IMHO Frank Marino is one of the best guitar players of all time.

Yeah and he's also a big amp builder/tweaker, also. The funny thing is most of his stuff is solid state. Still sounds great though. For me growing up in the 70s/80s, I just remember my brother turning me onto Frank, Trower, and Pat Travers about the same time...that live album was classic. It's sort of the "stoner tone" collection...all those phasers and univibes...heh

Mark, I hear what you're saying but it was a different era and time. Personally, I give props to anyone writing and performing be it Sting or the straggly guy singing in the Subway...I find songwriting very difficult...I can do it but my lyrics end up either too poetic and vague or too generic...drives me insane. Anyway, Should you really be mentioning "cheezy" when you have to play "we built this city?" night after night on tour? J/k At least you're out there making a living out of playing...wish I was...besides, "Jane" is a fun song.

no. no. dont get me wrong here. i say it for that reason. songs of the time. tools of the time. i remember doing similiar things. and growing up hearing Frank. I did say hes a monster and i do totally resepct him. i poke fun out of that respect. im near his age. maybe too much to assume im kind of realating to him cause we are close in age and musicians. but its total respect thing - the funny thing is i bet he would agree with what im saying. but dont get me wrong its not to take any respect away. and i dont expect anyone to respect the fact that i play built this city. although i always know it feels nice to be respected for what i do. i totally respect Franks contribution to the fine art of making a guitar speak volumes.

First time I heard the LIVE album I was stoned out of my mind and thought
"there's no way that guy's ripping like that"........

Then I listened to it the following day.........

DAMN!!!!!!!!

I know he influenced Zakk beyond belief......
