Mother-in-laws.....AAAARRRGGHHHH!!!!!

Post by Flames1950 » Sat Jun 17, 2006 9:53 pm

My son's second birthday party was today (his birthday was actually yesterday) and my wife's parents came up from Arizona for the occasion.........

My wife and her mom flat out don't get along. You can't put them in the same room for long without them starting to snipe at each other, and her mom is too goddam stupid to know when to shut the hell up. And she's jealous of all the time my parents get to spend with my son (well, my parents didn't up and move to Arizona for god's sake, what does my m-i-l expect??) They come up here without enough money to stay in a damn hotel, then want to bilk off friends and relatives the whole trip which usually ends up at least a month-long ordeal. And they think the whole time they're here that life revolves around their timetable, instead of sticking to a two-year-old's routine..........

They showed up at lunchtime and should have known goddam well that a toddler might need a nap after lunch before a 2:30 party. It was obvious that her mom was chomping at the bit to start something when we said that Jakey needed a nap and they needed to go until at least around 2......but tough shit, children come first!!!

They come back at 2, right when my parents and a friend of my wife's arrived, and you could smell the black mood a-brewin' right off. Her mom wouldn't even say hi to my mom (although somehow my dad is exempt from her cold-shoulder routine.) Five minutes into their time here and she's arguing with my parents that she can come take my son anytime she pleases (over my cold dead body  ) and before another five minutes passes the whole thing erupts into a screaming match between her and my wife because she didn't think she'd gotten to spend enough time with Jakey, and goddammit they'd driven two thousand miles to see him (somehow they don't get that my wife has work to bring home at night, plus night college, and we just don't have this kind of time to hang around with them....) and I'm sure the real problem was that Jakey woke up and came downstairs and automatically gets a book for my mom to read him like he does all week when he's there while we're at work. She proceeds to yell that Jakey is HER grandson, not my mom and dad's and that if she has to go to court she will get the time she wants to spend with him, and that was that....twenty five minutes in and my wife and I threw her out and slammed the door in her face. I felt sorry for her dad, who was trying to keep the reins on my m-i-l but can't do it for his life, he's stuck in the middle kinda like I am and wants to visit (and Sandi really wants to spend time with him but can't with her mom) but at least he was understanding and got outta Dodge..........

We tried to have fun the next two hours but even the people that weren't here to witness the fireworks knew something was up and a black cloud was hanging over the whole affair after that.

I just wanted to take a shotgun and beat my m-i-l upside the head for ruining a child's 2nd birthday, but she's just to fucking dumb to get that it's not about her!!!!

The mood is still sour here almost seven hours later.

Ban the Monster in law from coming on your property. Period end of story, only allow her to visit your son while being supervised in a neutral public place. This might get it through her skull.
Hell dude at least they showed up. My mother hates the fact that I have kids, let alone 3 of them. Says it makes her feel old.

On a positive note, check out this pedal car my dad built for Jakey.....he does one for each of the grandkids, and built one for his "grand-nephew" (is that what you call your brother's grandchild?)

Dad did almost all the painting and assembly....I usually do the flame designing and I only had a four hour window of time to design, mask and paint these flames so Pops could clearcoat the car last Saturday. Didn't come out too damn bad for a rush job!!!

Its like c'mon who is really being a two year old here!?

Necrovre is right. If she cant behave for the childs sake than no more invites or visitation. You have to put your foot down just as if you were being stern with a child. Its sad but true. It should be all the easier for you since she does not get along with her daughter very well anyway.

Mine was tame by comparision. My wife went to a play with her friend, my step daughter went to the beach with her friend and my step son slept all day while I broke my ass out in the backyard all day. I'm paying for that now...
