Hey guys,

I have myself a bit of a dilemma/opportunity here....

The owner of the most crowded bar on any weekend here in my little city
is looking for a new guitar player for the house band.

The catch is it's country.....

The pay's not great, but is good for around here.
Since it's a house gig it'll be set-up once and tweak (no changing locations).

The band's excellent (always has been), and new country's not nearly as bad
as some of the stuff forced down my throat growing up,
but it's still fucking country!!!!!

I'm one of those guys who hated hated hated country growing up
and swore I'd rather have the last name Bobbitt than play country!!!!

There was one point in grad. school where things were tight & selling plasma wasn't cutting it
where I played in a country band for a month or two
(I kinda consider that my down & dark-sordid porno career musically speaking).........

Good pay for the area, steady work & good exposure (if ya don't mind rednecks).....

Most players would be chomping at the bit to be offered this gig,

and here I sit with my fucking moral dilemma....

HELP!!!!!!!

Principals in music dont make us any money...

Musician First

As you pointed out, new country isn't the country of yore......the main difference between new country and average radio rock is a 10-gallon hat and a redneck accent. Most of the music straddles the line pretty hard to my ears anymore.

So why not? Hot cowboy chicks in tight jeans dancing in front of you.....that can't be all bad.

Think of it as an opportunity to develop your repertoire and broaden your musical horizons.

Better hide that Rush tattoo though, or they might drag you behind a rusty old pickup truck (while their dog looks on from the bed of the truck no doubt.)

All very good points........

I'll give it a shot and tell him I'm game when I see tha man then.....

I just hope the Randy influence or Alex chords don't leak out in the middle of 'Foggy Mountain Breakdown' or something

Why not challange yourself...?
The Regs can hear that same song over & over by different bands but this will give you a chance
to re-think some of you creative moods and give the listener a new flavor to try other than Schlitz Malt Liquor....???

Don't a few dive bombs once and a while! :)

Twang or not to twang, that's the question.

Go ahead man,it has been for many years, the country bands that always gig and make the most money!
When I hear these players on CMT,they are all coping Skynard licks, every chance they get,and get more lead breaks in than any other radio friendly music these days.
YeeHaww,git 'er done,boys!
You can keep your musical integrity, and even afford more Metro amps, right!
Regards
Too rock 'n roll for country,Yngwie'Photobuckethead'308,go on read them Nashville charts!

to twang or not to twang that is the question

Take the gig. High visibilty may lead to other more palatable opportunities. Country music today is more like country-rock of old. Take the leap and have fun with it. Besides chicken pickin isn't as easy as it sounds.
