That animusic is way too cool, from a technical perspective anyway. There was a showcase on the local PBS station awhile ago, I was just completely blown away.

As someone who has been enamored with computer graphics since I first got a VIC 20 I can tell you that is not easy to do. The modeling and the execution, even the sound is the easy part. The conception is the hard part and it's absolutley brilliant in this piece.

Mike, for the past couple of years I had been getting into doing 3D work on my own (trying to add another tool to the old graphic/web development build...3D and audio is actually what first got me into computers in the first place. Anyway, thought you might get a kick out of this. This was an experiment I did last year...kind of a salute to old school effects like Tron and Star Wars.

It will take a few minutes to load. I imported all the frames from Maya (the 3D animation software I use) into Flash....once Flash caches it, reload the browser and you'll see it at the proper speed.
The animation this thread is about is great....syncing up the animation to the music can be a PIA. Maya has a fantastic dynamics engine for things like this - simulating physics...turbulence, randomness, dynamics and constraints, etc. plus, with Mel, it's programming language, you have the entire API in your hands...that's what makes it so powerful....being able to customize for production pipelines.

Cool, Nitro
I'm going to have to try and dig up some of my old stuff.
Maya is pretty cool. I've tried 3D Studio Max, Maya, Houdini, XSI, Lightwave, pretty much all the major apps. 3DS is my fav. I'm just used to the interface. I do like the fluid dynamics of Maya though.
I mainly used it for 3D effects in film.
Lately I've been trying to put more of my time into music since that's what I do for a living. I went through a period of about two years of trying to get into film and 3D work before I realized that I just don

I hear ya. I had been getting a bit bored doing web work so I was seriously looking into 3D careers at one point...maybe going for a certificate program in broadcast design or animation at NYU...or going for the online Animation Mentor program. It's such an over-saturated market, though, and I'd be making less than I am now..and have the school debt on top of it...been there with Full Sail, already...no thanks. I know enough to get the things done I need to get done as far as model to final render goes...another tool in the tool belt. To be honest, I just got kind of sick of being on the computer all day at work, then spending the rest of the night working on my 3D stuff....I enjoy it but it got to be a little much. I'm more into the guitaring and working on the amp stuff these days...and trying to have a life.
