Mark (rockstah),
Are the DSL's your preferred backline for the Starship gig? They are showing up on a lot of other professional guitar player's backline as well (as you would know). If Neal Schon and Richie Sambora, and you use 'em live they can't be that bad eh?
They seem to be either loved or hated (much like the 900 series), but with guys that can use any amp they wish on a major tour, they seem to be a popular choice for live work.
I have yet to plug into a DSL, but I am almost reluctant to. I am just now becoming a Plexi (Metro JTM build) user and I have been getting the tone of my life. I know enough about these amps (Plexis) now that I feel comfortable repairing and modding (with the assistance of the Metro forum even building more) and that alone gives me a warm fuzzy in that for the next 30 years I can use Plexis and they wont eventually outlive their usefulness like the flavor of the day typical Marshall made in the last 20 odd years.
I remember when I bought my JCM 800 2205 head in 1987 and used it for studio recording. It was a wonderful sounding amp and with my '86 Jackson custom Strat it got me square in the 'Stryper - Solders Under Command' camp. Today I still have the amp (and guitar) but use neither because the amp sounds very weak (even after many visits to the 'service' guy) and the guitar is retired (I am using Les Pauls and Strats now).
I digress.....after years and years of playing there are only a few select pieces of gear that to me are irreplacable like Plexi Marshalls (or clones thereof) and a good Les Paul or Strat, etc.
So, why not use a Plexi build for your Starship gig or are the DSL's indeed that good?
Cole
