I have the Isley Brothers4+4 Lp or whatever it's called.Love the vibe of the guitar sounds,Ernie listened to Jimi at close quarters for a while in the early days,also Summer Breeze by Seals and Croft is a good cover by them.Is he using a flanger or phaser with the fuzz tone,to get that soaring tone?I always wondered.

BTW That was Michael Hampton you were listening to. You couldnt hear Eddie Hazel. His guitar was barely audible in that vid.

The original album version is one of the rawest marshall sounds I can think of. Its like Zappa. Its just dirty.

Hazel was not at the top of his game due to Drug abuse and health problems. These guys lived hard and fast alot of drug use.

Hapmton nailed Hazel's tune in this video. the original recording is amazing, this is probably as close as it gets. Hazel died in the early 90's

Eddie Hazel was amazing in a "feel" kinda way. Michael Hampton was a better technician who was ahead of his time in that respect. Eddie used a Dual showman head and cab on the earlier stuff ( 69-74) with a vox wha and what looked like a little wedge shaped fuzz tone, Maestro maybe ? He started using Music Man HD-120's as soon as they came out in '74 and all the good shit he played which was ittermittant in Funkadelic (Hampton took over the full time lead duties in '75)was done on those amps. Like Eddie was only on "Comin round the mountain" and "Hardcore Jollies" in the whole of '76. and only on "Good to your earhole" in '75. But that was very choice stuff. Total heavy ass Funk that only he could pull off. I love Hazel's lone solo album "Games ,Dame and Guitar Thang's". The solo's in the beatles cover "I want you( she's so heavy)and Physical Love in particular are amazing. Listen to his use of the phase 90 on the posthmous "Jams from the Heart" (Which the studio track of "Comin round the Mountain" was taken) Buddy Miles was on drums, man he hits hard and has some fuckin rhythm. I heard that right at his death plans had been made to reunite the band of gypsies. He would have been good in that band.

yer kidding me! excuse my rude ass here but both those guys sucked so bad i was laughing my ass off syaing out loud multiple times "yer fucking kidding me!" - it sounded like it did back when i was 14 in the garage after school anoyying the neighborhood while jamming with my freinds. i thought this was posted as a joke to tell you the truth.

uhh offend a brotha? this had nothing to with that other than both those guys , and yeah yer right i havent heard much of them, but on that clip sucked completely. it was funny. its my opinion and thats all.

Those guys arent huge on technique Mark (but you had to try and shred live it was the 80s!) but they were good man. I actually played a gig with Billy Bass Nelson (founding member) I can tell you without a doubt the guy can rip it up even if he wasnt the most technicaly minded I dont remember a rhythm section feeling as good. Rarely ever. He kept going back to his own cliches just like everybody does, but even so the guy didnt play a note that wasnt awesome. Even on guitar.

Mark, as a starter to Eddie Hazel listen to "Red Hot Mama" from "Standing on the verge of Gettin it on". He even trades off vocals with Clinton. I'm not offended it's just that in my hood Hazel was a big inspiration. He had flawed techniqe I guess you could say. Lots of all downstrokes etc, but he was very good.Love you guy's

well yeah i can see they arent heavy into technigue - that music is not about technigue. im talking about the over playing just to be playing, the over and under bends.. the lack of intonation - im talking about it for what it is - hey, again its my opinion. i just thought it was funny thinking itw as posted for thatreason - to be a joke! - hey if you dig it, if it communicates thats all that matters.
