Hi,

First of all this is my first post and I would like to thank you all on what awesome products Metro amp sells and the helpfulness I see on the forum.

Down to business. One of my friends rang me yesterday and said he was sick of his valvestate (I'm sure that will come as no shock to you all). He remembered me telling him I stumbled over Metro amps and wondered if I could build one for him but he didn't really know which kit to go for. He plays classic rock and blues so he needs something that can do Zeppelin but also do sweet blues tones, perhaps SRV like. We are both not very knowledgeable when it comes to Marshalls but I hope to learn a lot off these forums. I thought probably the JTM45 kit would be the way to go.

Also, we live in Australia. Can kits be sent to Australia? If so how much approx would be the cost of shipping? What (if any) changes would I have to make to the kit to accept the 240v we have here compared to the 110v of America?

I have never built an amp before but I have built a few effects pedals and I am pretty good with this kind of thing. I think I can handle it and the instructions look good.

So any advice would be much welcome and I'm sorry if this is the wrong area, I didn't know where else to post such a question.

As much as I love all my 100-watters, I would agree with the JTM45 as a great choice. My Metro JTM45 does everything from killer Strat and Gibson blues to AC/DC and other classic rock tones......... And the volume is easier to manage!!

I agree - I'd start with the JTM45 kit. You'll love it! Get it with the Sozo capacitor upgrade, and you might need to add your own power cord. Out of all my amps, my Metro 45 probably sees the most action.

So in terms of power I would just need to use an Australian power cord? I wouldn't need to do something to the transformer etc?

That's right, just the cord -- the power transformer already has taps for 220V on the primary side, so you're covered.

Aren't there some members here that are from Australia?

Haha, I have really wanted a Marshall lately, I have been using a Peavey Classic 30 pretty much my whole playing life (around 12 years) and although I believe its a fantastic little amp it just lacks that "bigness" and that classic Marshall sound.

Thanks for the comments guys, I'll have to have a talk with my friend about it. I'm sure he will be very keen, as am I.

Woah I found out its almost $300 australian shipping ($216 US). I guess thats not too bad considering the price of the amp and the size/weight.
