Guitar Showdown.
Seeing that we are starting to have quite a few new members and the sharing of amp/tone information is going back and forth, I am going to propose something that might interest you all.
Let's start up a guitar showdown. There are several on other boards that I go on and figured it would be really cool on this one concidering we all are shooting for great tone.
Here is the down and dirty on how it will be run.
1. This will be an ongoing contest for whoever wants to participate. This also means that you can join any round or sit out any round. Each round will have a topic piece that needs to be accomplished, explained below.
2. There will only be a 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winner for each round.
3. The first stage of each round will be a 2 week period where you as a participant will need to learn the topic song, record it, put it up on a public access website for others to listen to. You are required as a participant to make sure that other participants and listeners can have easy access to your sound clip. No hard memberships should be required to "listen" to your submission.
4. At the close of the two week submission period, there will be a 48 hour voting period. The voting period will be done "In thread". The thread topic will be in the Off Topic forum. The submissions with the most votes wins, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. In case of a tie, for any of the top three positions, they will remain a tie and the next submission under them will move up in line one step. You can only vote once. Interdiscussion during the showdown is incouraged in the thread though.
5. Here are the Prizes for the placings.
1st place: Bragging Rights!
2nd place: You pick the subject material for the next round.
3rd place: You pick the subject material in case of a tie for 2nd place.
6. Only registered members will be allowed to submit sound clips to listen to.
7. This Guitar Showdown is designed to do nothing more than to bring us together as musicians and to open up our musical capabilities.
If you guys are all in agreeance with this let me know in this thread by Sunday 6pm CST as I will start the contest sunday night. It will be an easy one for starters.

Well I kind of left a few things out on purpose. As far as solos go maybe hittting highlights of the solo is the best way to go. Or maybe just the solo of a certain song. Let's see where this takes us.Flames1950 wrote:Sounds cool!! Now I just gotta dig out the recording gear and get rid of the wife and baby!!! (Good luck you say?? NO SHIT.)
That and actually learn a solo note for note. Maybe you ARE asking too much.
As for recording use only what you have. I am not expecting Electric Ladyland style recordings, a simple mic into a soundcard would work. Or a jambox recording into the computer would work too. Up to your imagination.

Thank God. I can count on one hand the number of solos I ever knew note-for-note, with fingers left over.Necrovore wrote:Well I kind of left a few things out on purpose. Just was never into guitar competitions like they do over at Guitar Center. How do they judge that stuff over there anyway, because didn't one year some acoustic guitarist beat out all these shredders and metal heads? I guess it's just more than technical ability. However, i would like to hear some shred Spanish Fly! HA!
